books-library-stack's Issues

back function to zoom out in full

Zooming out is not obvious.

  1. create a little button that exists strictly for zoom out, hover it in one of the corners.
  2. Clicking "academic units" or "faculty interests" zooms out.

Probably both should be implemented.

the pack bubbles need to display their purpose

Right now only the faculty bubbles have text labels, and only when they are zoomed in.

The categorical bubbles will need to display the label of the academic unit or interest.

The Harvard-most bubble (outermost) probably does not need a label.

right hand text display needs to be more flexible

The text display right now is just a list of bullet points for academic units. Click on an academic unit and the graph will zoom to it.

Ideally, each academic unit could be clicked in the list and expand to show all the faculty. However, expanding the faculty in-line (between one academic unit and the next within the right hand text display) would probably look bad and lead to a lot of scrolling.

Perhaps implement collapsible menus or menus that nest out sideways.

Back button

We need to have a clear button to unzoom the d3 pack layout.

add functionality to display by faculty interest

Presently the faculty are organized by academic unit (sort of like department), both in the JSON and in the pack bubbles.

The pack bubbles should optionally be sorted by faculty interest. In this case, the JSON needs to be reworked to support both faculty interest and academic unit.

Additionally, there needs to be a switch/toggle to swap between the two modes.

In the case that one faculty has multiple interests, trying to intersect the interests would be ugly and hard to read. Instead, the faculty will appear as many times as interests that are had.
