Can't understand part of library code

why set these parameter?

in code for Earn value X/Y/Z use " adxl.readXYZ ". then why set these parameter for interrupt?
a second my issue that is for detect taps for pedometer.Are you just using INT_SINGLE_TAP_BIT for interrupt program? (or use Activity / doubletap , ...) please help me thanks.
