termux-archlinux's Issues

cannot update kernel

Hi,

I tried to install qt5-based application, which need kernel later than 3.16.
The commands I executed are:
$ su
# pacman -S linux-tls

I got the following errors:
Running build hook: [autodetect] find: '/sys/devices': Permission denied
Running build hook: [fsck] ERROR: file not found: 'fsck.rootfs'
Running build hook: [fsck] /usr/lib/initcpio/functions: line 636: /dev/stdin: No such file or directory

Is any clues about how to fix it?

Thanks.

No webbrowser works. AT ALL

Sofar, the browsers that launch are below
Firefox: White screen, nothing else
midori: Loads UI, but returns error failed to create shared memory file /WK2SharedMemory.<randome numbers>: Permission Denied ∞'ly
Surf: White Screen, returns failed to create shared memory file /WK2SharedMemory.<randome numbers>: Permission Denied ∞'ly

Browsers that dont launch for me
Chromium: Literally nothing happens, havent gotten terminal output yet (tablet is dead)

libandroid-shmem has been installed in Termux,
No root is obtainable at this time. (as in, Android Root)

Going to test a fresh install (Fresh Termux and Fresh Termux-Arch)

AutoStarting via chsh startarch does not work

Starting termuxArch via startarch manually from termux's bash prompt works fine, but I want it to autostart.

In the guide it was written to do chsh and give it startarch, so I did that.

When I launch it tho I get this error: su: user does not exist and then it terminates, leaving only the possibility of removing ~/.termux/shell from a failsafe session.

Arch setup script can not finish its installation

Dear specialists,
I Am running yours script on Lenovo TAB 3 8. Build in algorithms autodetect used architecture as ARM64. But after extraction, I AM getting following errors.
Bash script output is attached. Unfortunately, I do not know how to set more lines on console so I could attach whole output.
I Am running latest Termux from Google Play, I have applied latest updates for Termux.
I have no issues with yours script when running on Blackview A5. I could even run Orca screen reader, pulseaudio-alsa and Seamonkey WEB browser without severe crasheven on this cheap mobile phone.
I Am wondering, what is wrong on my tablet, which have better performance.
I can try to disable my antivirus service which uses Google accessibility service to run.
But I do not know if this will help.
If you know about something, which I could do to finish The installation, please let Me know.

Chmod permission on bash install

Whenever I try to install via bash setupTermuxArch.sh I get an error:

chmod: changing permissions of '/data/data/com.termux/files/home/arch/tmp': Operation not permitted

I've looked at the open/closed issues and I can't find a similar issue.

Android 9

lets bring secure way howto run Xorg directly on nonrooted Android device

May be, that my plea is rather developers science fiction, but I would like to please alladvanced developers here, if somebody of us know about secure way how to use Xorg with no need to use Xserver XSDL or VNC on non rooted devices.
Because it would be perfect, if XORG could be used directly.
Or really, this is not possible if Android device have not been rooted?
What do you think about this approach on this forum thread?
https://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=35205246
Or also this .so driver require rooted Android?
Thank you very much

lets bring The Mate desktop environment for users of yours profesionally prepared script

Perhaps it is possible to run Mate desktop on Termux byusing Arch Linux with Termux.
Yours script is very robust so I believe, that Arch Linux is perfectly preconfigured by using it and that Dbus sockets will work.
Here is The information, that it is really possible to run Mate. desktop on Arch Linux for ARM 64 and other devices

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=exa.lnx.a&hl=en
When I have tried to run mate by typing
mate-session in Debian, I always get error message from The gnome-keyring-daemon.
Insufficient process capabilities. And Mate can not detect hod keys such ALT+F1 or ALT+F2.
Do you think, that Archlinux programmers have extended some C or C++ source codes so it will really work?
Or it is only possible to use it with some VNC client, no in conjunction with Xserver XSDL?
Unfortunately, I do not know, if somebody have been to big professional that there is some VNC client app for Androidwhich will send hod keys and keys from Bluetooth or USB external keyboard to The Xserver running based app.
I Am afraid, that VNC client will only support touching keyboard no hardware keyboards.
The next problem is, if keys detection in Mate have not been coded by using UDEV. And Udev can not work in Chroot environment if ANdroid have not been rooted.
Thank you very much for some information about Mate.
Many Mate apps can be really used including Mate powerful window manager Marco, mate-control-center. The problem is to run complete Mate desktop including mate-panel, its system tray area and other parts.

HUAWEI Mate 10 lite and Archlinux setup script error

Please does somebody of us know, if Android kernel of this device is capable to run Termux and especially Proot and some Linux distribution by using this Termux module?
Because I can not use Linux distro from Termux on this device. I AM always getting some bugs. Warning that some symbolic link have been changed from 6 to 8, Yours setup script can not find packages name which it require and I AM using latest stable Termux no BETA. Or all of you, creators of Debian scripts and Arch Linux script have made many changes so errors will exist on every device?
Now, setup script is writing The following error.
E: Enable to locate package bsddar
Termux arch Warning: generated script signal 100 near or ad line number 615
Is it error of script, or really somy hydden kernel issue of my phone?
Thank you very much for yours answer.
Or should I add some other repository to Termux to get it work?

starting vnc server via 'startarch su user cmd'

When trying to execute the following command I get the resulting error. The first line (shown below) is likely not part of the real error since it occurs even when the vncserver starts correctly:
' xauth: error in locking authority file /home/testuser/.Xauthority '

full output:
`
$ startarch su testuser vncserver :1 -localhost
xauth: error in locking authority file /home/testuser/.Xauthority
Could not start Xvnc.

(EE)
Fatal server error:
(EE) Can't read lock file /tmp/.X1-lock
(EE)

`

This is using the tigervnc package and the vncserver :1 -localhost command works normally when called from an interactive session or executed from a script while logged in as testuser. It only fails to work when using the startarch su testuser cmd syntax given by the help page.

/dev directory problems

At the start, I always have endless mistakes with /dev/net

These errors do not affect the further work, but I would like to remove them :)

Please help me with dbus on Arch Linux

Yesterdays night have been one of my best nights of my life. Why? Because I have successfully installed ArchLinux thanks to yours wonderful script. And I have been able to run Seamonkey including E-mail. Would you tell Me The secret, how did you managed so reliable shared memory support, that even complex native so libraries which are The part of Seamonkey can work? in 2017 Seamonkey did not work in Arch Linux like today.
I could only use Seamonkey browser but E-mail client could not be started. There was error related to shared memory support.
But now, there was really A miracle.
Or Newest stable Seamonkey contain routines which do not use shared memory when it is not presented?

But I Am fighting with Dbus. And it is non easy fight mission.
To be able to use Orca, mate desktop environment and Seamonkey, I always must run
dbus-launch app name &

But this is not A solution. Some mate parts gives errors related to Dbus.
Do you think, that there would be some work around, which would setup Dbus by The way that it would not cause errors?

What is currently possible?
Switch between windows even with Marco thanks to work around related to /proc/stat

It is even possible to use Seamonkey includingHTML compositor and E-mail client.
This is my biggest joy.
Distro can be safely and reliably upgraded and even terminated.
Exit correctly closes all sub processes, so user do not have to manually terminate xinit or XVFB.
Termination do not corrupt installed file system so distro work perfectly.
After this analysis, I have 100 % decided to use only Arch Linux and yours script.
It really seems to Me, that shared memory is solved The by The best eay.

I have even solved issue with Speech-dispatcher and sound output.
I Am using Espeakng package instead of Espeak.
And I have setup Pulseaudio for Termux to use Unix sockets thanks to professional advice from MR Pliush.
As A result, I have very usable Linux distribution.

I will also install Xorg dummi video driver instead to XVFB I will save several MB of RAm and some CPU cycles.
So Mr Rausty and others contributions. Very well done.
Proot programmers and Android developers have saved my dream. They have repaired Pokedata and Proot developers are also doing their best to make their app as stable and as fast as possible.

If there is some technique which would make my life with Dbus more efficient and reliable, please let Me know, Sure, I Am ready to test with you and reinstall whole distro, if something will crash.
Thank you again.

How to set the hostname?

I tried setting it in /etc/hosts, tried /etc/hostname, tried hostnamectl... the regular Arch ways, but in all cases hostname returns localhost.... When I'm connected via SSH, it's nice to know what system I'm on, so would be helpful if I could give the local device a name... Any workarounds?

how to login as non root user please

Dear Mr Rausty,
I have done my best to understand how to login as non root user by using startarch script, but I had no success.
Please tell Me the secret.
By The way, did you create some non root user during installation so su or other command would be used to switch between root and non root account at Arch Linux run time?
Thank you very very much for yours advice.

Orca screen reader and VNC in Arch Linux

I have collected much experience so I AM ready to offer you functioning solution, which will allow visually impaired ArchLinux users to use Orca screen reader with Mate desktop in Arch Linux.
What I only need is only to know, how to start xvfb, xorg-virtual frame buffer server.
I have successfully installed this package. But xvfb command do not work.
Here are commands, which should allow visually impaired users to use Orca from Arch Linux.
I suspect, that Arch Linux will be configured to use TCP or Unix sockets to support PUlseaudio, which will run from Termux environment.

pacman -S mate orca espeak x11vnc xorg-server-xvfb
After successfully installing those packages, we must configure Pulseaudio to use sockets. Perhaps, it should be A bit faster than when TCP sockets are being used by client apps, which wan to communicate with Pulseaudio sound server which run from Termux.

export PULSE_SERVER=unix:/tmp/pulse.sock
We also need to configure Pulseaudio from Termux so

pulseaudio --start --exit-idle-time=-1
pactl load-module module-native-protocol-unix socket=/data/data/com.termux/files/home/arch/tmp/pulse.sock auth-anonymous=1

We also must rather install sox also for Arch Linux not only for Termux.
pacman -S sox
To test Espeak with Pulseaudio
Espeak "Hello world"
We should hear speec houtput thanks to Pulseaudio for Termux.
How to start Mate and X11 rleated stuff?
I Am afraid, that new security mechanismhs build in to dependent libraries for Orca screen reader will not allow us to run Mate as Root.
I do not know how to create non root user after installing Arch Linux.
We will have to combine root account from which xvfb would had to be executed.
X11vnc should also run from Root.
mate-session &
should run only from non root account.
So commands which should be run as root are.
export DISPLAY=:1
Xvfb :1 -screen 0 1024x768x16 &
x11vnc -display :1 -bg -nopw -listen localhost -xkb -noshm -forever -ncache 10
It is possible to run two lines from /etc/profile
but mate-session &
must be run separately, I do not know how to correctly autodetect from script, that previous processes have been correctly initialized, no terminated, but I need to know, that it have finished its initial job.

To be able to use keyboard shortcuts on Android, I Am recommending all visually impaired users to use Simple Remote. Mr Jordano have even prepared .apk package for non advanced users like I Am so it is not necessary to compile .apk independently.

If Orca and Mate apps which do not use Shared memory system calls will work.
My plea is, if yours Arch Linux script would be extended so Orca and X11vnc and xvfb would be used.

If user would start yours setup script with -orca
option, script should preconfigure The system for user.

how to switch mirror station

my system is using the sg.mirror.archlinuxarm.or (yes is .or,not .org)
i want to change a mirrorstation,what should i do?

32bit packages?

Now that Arch no longer supports 32bit -- how does this work on Chromebooks (Intel Based) which run Termux as 32bit? I gave it a brief attempt but ran into issues with 404s from pacman mirrors due to the lack of i686 packages.

Gnome is not working

I installed arch linux in my termux after that I installed gnome. I exported the display to 0 ( to xserver xsdl app ) and run the command " gnome-session & ". I got many errors and it don't worked if any one has idea what to do ?

How to install LXDE

Dear specialists,
I would like to install LXDE desktop environment. I have successfully go through all setup steps of Archlinux Bash script for Termux. I have issue, that I do not know, how to install LXDE.
When I Am loggedas root user and when I type
pacman -S lxde
System is giving Me several questions and I do not know, which numbers should I choose.
Is this project under development, so many packages are specially modified to be compatible with Termux, so for now, there is no stable LXDE desktopenvironment?
I have tried several choices, but I have got message aboutconflicting packages. By other words, system did not simply install LXDE automatically.
Because LXDE is The onlyone stable GTk desktop environment which can run in Proot without issues, I would like to install it.
I Am also helpless to install Firefox. I Am working with ARM 32 BIT system with 32 BIT ARM CPU. I Am using Android 6.1.
Some packages can be simply installed. But some not.
Any instructions will be very welcomed.
I know, that I can not run startx to run installed desktop environment, Iwill tryXserver XSDL instead.
I also do not have problems to run separate apps without whole desktop environment.
Thank you very much for yours help.
With kindness regards.

passwd is not hiding password entry

not sure where this problem is caused from.
termux before i start startarch:
passwd works as mentioned, password which i enter will not be shown on keyentry.
when i start arch with startarch.sh
passwd will show any charactor which i enter.

i tried also in arch ssh-keygen which will prompt also for password entry, that workes fine . doesnt show any key entry.

really not sure if it is a termux-archlinux issue.

This is what I get when I run the setup script while definitely having internet:

It failed on all deX mirrors. I ran this 3 times just to make sure, and the same thing happens every time.

Looks like a strange curl issue is preventing me from using arch.

" TermuxArch warning: Script signal 1 generated! "

Hello sir,
I am user of aarch64, android 7.1.2 .
When I going to install ArchLinux on termux, at the stage of "🕚 Uncompressing ArchLinuxARM-aarch64-latest.tar.gz" an error comes displaying this massage " TermuxArch warning: Script signal 1 generated! "
" SetupTermuxArch.sh v1.6: DONE "
Please solve this issue.
Note that, I used ArchLinux in the same device 5 days ago. But today after uninstalling termux when I reinstalled it (termux) and going to install ArchLinux on it (termux) the error came. Now I request, please fix this problem as soon as possible.
Thanks in advance.

Sudo is non functional

I've installed sudo in tumux arch I don't know if this is an issue with sudo or termux-arch but sudo doesn't work, this is a big issue for alot of the dependancies especially for package managers like pacman and yaourt.

Start Arch command at boot

I'm trying to start an arch application at boot with termux-boot, the same application run if started out of arch.

The command i run is:
startarch -c "mosquitto"

I tried also with full path without success, any suggestion? Tnx

Setup issue!

PIN or Pattern Lock?

Curious if you've considered adding an optional password or pattern unlock on Termux? Preferably it would be pattern unlock... Several SSH apps have this feature.

Sometimes you might want to share your phone so others can see photos or videos, but would like to secure your terminal environment.

EDIT: Sorry, had a dozen Termux and Termux-ArchLinux tabs open and posted this on the Termux-ArchLinux one by mistake.

kind plea help me to compile dbus-x11 for ARM64

The fact is that dbusů-launch work, but without dbus-x11 some apps have issues including Mate. I would had to recode all C sources which wants to communicate with other processes so it would run dbus-launch binary name.
So dbus-launch can be used to start simple processes, but if Mate-session initialize other processes, it is not enough to work by this way.
Dear MR Rausty.
Do you think, that you could give Me a piece of advice how to compile dbus-x11?
The package for non ARM64 Bit architecture is available here:
https://aur.archlinux.org/packages/dbus-x11/
Sure I will install all needed dependencis myself thanks to included WEB table with dependencies list. But I do not know where to get The needed source code?
Link is here:
git+https://anongit.freedesktop.org/git/dbus/dbus#commit=a330c6184fe9c7f67495f8d4563b11d51a6dccc7
So if you would help Me to download The source I will try to compile myself. I have allready successfully compiled Gradio, Orca I install all needed dependencies thanks to Aur repository and its perfect dependencies list table. I Am not lazy, I can really compile.
Thank you very much for yours advice.
I have also found unsoft true. Some times seamonkey and Firefox stop to cooperate with Orca. I can activate it four seven times and suddenly,, Orca stop to cooperate with those processes. So I want to install dbus-x11.

But even there are some light nuances inf functions, Arch Linux still retain my favourite Linux distro. Thank you very much for yours help.
I have allready asked on ARch general mailing list. I really do my best.
