Currently for Debian-based distributions only, X11rdp-o-Matic automaticallydownloads, compiles, installs, and configures the X11rdp back-end X server , and the latest version of xrdp. RDPsesman is a menu driven utility for system administrators to configure local system users's RDP desktop environments. Will automatically install packages if necessary.

x11rdp-o-matic's Issues

Change the compilation folder of X11RDP

For the moment, the binary created during the compilation is on the folder /opt/X11rdp but it's also the install folder for the deb package.

Change it for $WORKINGDIR/Build/X11RDP/opt/x11rdp and use $WORKINGDIR/Build/X11RDP for making the deb package.

Missing dependency on Xubuntu 12.04.4 LTS 64bit inhibits compilation of xrdp

Hello Kevin, dear community,

thank you for your work. It is a very useful project! With the release version : v3.1 , released March 6th 2014 does not fully compile with the xrdp sources.

With a fresh install of Xubuntu 12.04.4 LTS I get:

rail.c:31:35: fatal error: X11/extensions/Xrandr.h: No such file or directory.

The problem is caused by a missing dependency that is not installed by X11-RDP-o-matic.

After manually installing the package: libxrandr-dev everything worked out fine.
See also this post from yesterday:

http://www.mail-archive.com/[email protected]/msg01648.html

Adding the dependency to the package libxrandr-dev in the script may solve the problem.

Kind Regards from Germany
Oliver

remove interactive mode

o-Matic has two modes interactive and non-interactive.

Current o-Matic code is not doing DRY and contains repeat of similar operations.
I think most of people use o-Matic with --justdoit option. I would like to remove
interactive mode rather than refactor keeping two modes.

Any opinions?

Dialog border lines show up wrong

Instead of lines, I actually get the letters l, q, k, x, m and j everywhere. That looks weird. Other dialog-based package configurations work well. I'm using PuTTY to access the SSH shell. There are some options in PuTTY to handle strange output but none helps. So I guess these characters are somehow hard-coded in your script.

dpkg-buildpackage: error: gain-root-commmand 'fakeroot' not found

Required Package: libavccodec-dev on xrdpvr

--withxrdpvr and with the freerdp compile requires the libavccodec-dev, libavformat-dev and possibly libavcformat-extra-54 package on your release version. Hope this helps.

And that doesn't work neither, as the ffmpeg project changed the PKT_FLAG_KEY to
AV_PKT_TYPE_KEY, so i'll create a bug fix for that with the free RDP project.

Thank you.

Bobby.

Error compiling

Hi,

on my Kubuntu 14.04 desktop while building X11rdp I have an error:

"failed to download libXfont-1.4.3.tar.bz - aborting build"

Any suggestions here?

Install libxrandr-dev if needed

I installed successfully on XUbuntu 13.10.

The only step I had to perform manually was:

sudo apt-get install libxrandr-dev

  • also it would be awesome if rdp o matic detected build failures.
  • xfce4 has issues with icons and rdp, but thats not rdp-o-matic.

platform Ubuntu Server 14.04

this is not an issue
just wanted to say, that script
./X11rdp-o-matic.sh –justdoit
works fine on Ubuntu 14.04.2 Server

Crashes on Ubuntu 15.10

Hi,
X11RDP crashes a lot on Ubuntu 15.10. Don't know if this is the right place to raise such a bug, so feel free to advice.

Thanks.

nsgmls:/etc/sgml/w3c-dtd-xhtml.cat:8:8:E: cannot open "/usr/share/xml/xhtml/schema/dtd/1.0/catalog" (No such file or directory)

i get compilation error on ubuntu 12.10
nsgmls:/etc/sgml/w3c-dtd-xhtml.cat:8:8:E: cannot open "/usr/share/xml/xhtml/schema/dtd/1.0/catalog" (No such file or directory)

for more info please look at https://bugs.debian.org/cgi-bin/bugreport.cgi?bug=676717

to resolve problem simple install sgml-base_1.26+nmu4 or newer.

for example http://de.archive.ubuntu.com/ubuntu/pool/main/s/sgml-base/sgml-base_1.26+nmu4ubuntu1_all.deb

[wish] ppa archive with justdoit flavor

Scarygliders is great, but takes a very long time to setup.

I imagine most people only use the justdoit option, so would it be possible to provide a ppa archive containing prebuilt debs that we could simply install with apt-get?

[wish] Add support for librfxcodec

Can you extend the script to git clone librfxcodec (and "make librfxcodec" prior to building packages, as per [https://github.com/neutrinolabs/xrdp/issues/354]).

This could be called by user with addition of new option at runtime (i.e. "--withremote-fx" or similar)? This would enable Remote-FX support within xrdp.

prog_std.txt is missing

When running the script as such:

sudo ./X11rdp-o-matic.sh --branch master --nocpuoptimize

It seemed to run fine until the Building xrdp source and packaging stage:

...

I then also got this error, but my assumption is that it's only because of the above:

X11rdp and xrdp should now be fully installed, configured, and running on this system.
One last thing to do now is to configure which desktop will be presented to the user after they log in via RDP.
You may not have to do this - test by logging into xrdp now.
Or use the RDPsesconfig.sh utility to configure a session's desktop.

do not remove when --noinstall is called

Hello scary and thank you for this script :)
One remark though - when it is called with --noinstall it will erase the current install in /opt/
This I think should be done by apt, if at all.

Thank you, regards,

Vincent

It seems that without NEWS file the xrdp package build process fails, therefore no xrdp*.deb will be produced. How should I create such NEWS file?

Also I found the thread neutrinolabs/xrdp#190 about Debian Jessie systemd script not being produced. Will this be another potential failure?

Mouse clicks fail to register in the right location

I've been tinkering with this and older builds, and have come to the conclusion that there is a bug in the binaries built using this - if you use a trackpad with certain clients, mouse clicks will not be registered in the correct location - i.e., somehow, the mouse down/mouse up events are processed without updating the mouse coordinates, which results in them landing in "old" positions.

An older build (2.5) doesn't exhibit this behaviour (with exactly the same client - CORD on Mac OS X). I'll try reporting this to the freerdp guys as well, but think it wise to leave a note here.

works on Ubuntu 15.10

After executing the commands below, I was able to flawlessly connect to my Ubuntu 15.10 machine from Windows 10. Clipboard sharing was also working. This is just an FYI. Perhaps the guide can be updated.

cd X11RDP-o-Matic/
sudo ./X11rdp-o-matic.sh # takes several 10s of minutes

# xrdp failed to start. using the quick fix described in http://c-nergy.be/blog/?p=8316
sudo ls /lib/systemd/system/xrdp* # 2 files
sudo rm /lib/systemd/system/xrdp*
systemctl daemon-reload
sudo service xrdp start
sudo service xrdp start # was able to connect at this point, but nothing happened after providing login details

sudo ./RDPsesconfig.sh # was able to connect to an actual X11rdp session at this point. Clipboard sharing was not working

git clone https://github.com/sigmike/autocutsel.git
cd autocutsel/
autoreconf -vfi
sudo apt-get install libxaw7-dev
./configure
make
sudo make install
autocutsel # after running this, I copied something in gedit on the server, and successfully pasted it in onenote on the client machine

Working on Ubuntu 12.04.2 LTS

The documentation said that this version hasn't been certified yet and that I should let you know that everything appears to work fine. I haven't used it much yet, but I can log in remotely, and it seems a little faster than the repository version (this may be my connection speed limit).

The first time I connected after installation, it works for a few seconds, before it hangs and dies. Any attempt at re-connection, even after rebooting, this now occurs.

This may be more of a x11rdp problem, if so, sorry I'm submitting this here. I also do not know how to log x11rdp specifically.

Ubuntu Server 16.04.1 with ubuntu-mate and ubuntu-mate-core packages installed.

Thanks,
Tommy

Edit: I realized my IP was shown here, so I edited it out.. just for security's sake.

Switch the keyboard does not work in a terminal session

Keyboard switch starts only after I run the command in the session:
setxkbmap -layout "us,ru" -model "pc105" -option "grp:alt_shift_toggle,grp_led:scroll"
And it did not work and when resuming session.
What should be done or where I can add this command that would switch worked immediately when entering a session?

WM (XFCE) Will not start automatically

Fresh NetInst of Debian 7.5, very little added except git, python the official Oracle JDK.

XRDP-o-Matic installed successfully without issue, I run RDPsesconfig and choose XFCE, which also runs without issue. I connect, choose sesman-X11rdp, and login without a problem, but only a terminal appears, no menus on it, against a black background.

From there I can manually start XFCE using startxfce4, but it will not do so on its own.

14.04 rdp connects but blank screen

I had previously built the .deb filed and installed them with dpkg on a new VM running 14.04. When I tried to connect all I could get was a blank screen.

I then built a fresh VM with 14.04 cloned the repo and ran the bash command with the --justdoit option. Everyting built, but when I logged in, it complained that there was no .xsession. I ran the set up command and selected gnome -- I was able to log in but black screen... I tried XFCE and again black.

Any thoughts or suggestions?

suggestion: explain what the tool does

Been reading about this tool for a bit now (and in the middle of building it) and I honestly don't know whether this is intended to allow me to connect to a Debian machine via RDP-ish or if it's a tool that allows people to connect to my machine via RDP. In short: should this be installed on the machine I want to connect to or the machine I want to connect from?

Beta release patch problem

Because the Beta release grabs from the "master" branch of xrdp/x11rdp, and this branch constantly changes, the method used to patch the Makefile fails due to the xrdp/x11rdp source changing.

The solution is to grab a known/static branch - this branch looks to be the v0.7 branch for the time being.

Working on a solution now...

Compilation with Multi-core CPU

I'm tried to perform a compilation of x11rdp and xrdp but when i saw my CPU in htop, just one core was used. I don't specify the flag --nocpuoptimize.

I already created a patch but i'm not able to push in a new branch for create a pull request :/

The patch is on a pastbin :

Ubuntu 14.04 & xfce

I'm on a pretty fresh install of Ubuntu 14.04 and used --justdoit to install xrdp.

When using xfce in .xsession rdp works when selecting 'sesman-Xvnc'. But when I select 'sesman-X11rdp' the connection is closed shortly after login...

Here's the last few entries in the .xsession-errors file after the connection is closed:

Seems to me there is a problem with sound and I tried different sound settings on the client, but none did fix the issue (I don't really care for sound, even).
Do you have any pointers?

Drive redirection does not work

I can´t redirect drives, even using the ./configure --enable-fuse command. I've tried all the branchs of neutrinolabs/xrdp, and installing in various Debian and Ubuntu distros. The clipboard files works perfectly in both ways, but the drive redirection looks simply does not exist, despite the thinclient_drive folder always appear. What can I be missing?
