@prolic No it's correct, because of array_replace_recursive. It must be an array. This array function does not accept an object.

        if ($this instanceof ProvidesDefaultOptions) {
            $config = array_replace_recursive($this->defaultOptions(), $config);
        }

If you config is an array, no problem. When your config is an iterable (but no array) chances are your provided default config is also no array (but array object f.e.).
Inconsistency in either way.
