streaming-instability's Introduction

streaming-instability

Production input and output files, data analysis and plotting notebooks, and high-performance-computing-related resources related to Baronett, et al. (2024).

Analysis Prerequisites

This repository contains Jupyter Notebooks under the /ipynb/ subdirectory used for data analysis and to generate most of the figures seen in Baronett et al. (2024).

Data Availability

Videos of the dust density field evolution can be accessed on figshare at https://doi.org/10.6084/m9.figshare.c.6718221. Although the videos can be previewed from within a web browser, downloading them from the provided link and playing them locally will ensure they are viewed at the highest possible resolution and frame rate. The remaining data underlying Baronett, et al. (2024) can be shared upon reasonable request to the corresponding author.

streaming-instability's Issues

LinA

Tasks

  • Answers in Eq. 10 in YJ07
  • CC's probgen & input come from Eqs. 1-4
  • Growth rates: semilog plot of max. density vs. $t$
    • Difference of max. density w/ initial (not absolute)
    • Plot minimum density as well (should be symmetrical)
    • Particles: see $\epsilon$ def'n (YJ07)
    • slope is $s$ (growth rate): pick two points to measure
    • make sure my $s$ is right units
    • Compare w/ Lin A in YJ07 (Fig. 4 @ various res.): should be one dot, but check input for #grid pts/$\lambda$
  • Understand units in input file
    • Understand diff. between orbital period and 1/$\Omega$
    • Understand 3 main: time, length, mass, rho (e.g.)
      • What's the "code units", e.g., 1 in time, or 1 in length
    • ID sim. invariants
  • Check all 8 components, e.g., velocities
    • Understand the 8 different components of the system
    • Code solves paper's eqs. w/o units
  • Understand input file
    • Cross reference w/ pgen streaming_instability.cpp
