open-reader-api's Issues

Test suite for APIs that support Open Reader API

Though this issue won't be able to be tackled for a while, it's good to get it out there for planning. It would be good to have a test suite that could be pointed at any API that supports the Open Reader API to test for compliance.

On a page that lists those APIs that support this initiative, we could list to what degree they are compliant. This could be automated so that if APIs change in the future, the documentation stays up to date.

Add clarification to Resources about what the API Documentations are

Right now it's unclear as to what the list of API documentations are for new visitors. It could be mistaken as a list of APIs and support the Open Reader API. We'll need to differentiate between those that support Open Reader and everything else, old and new.

First recommendation is adding new headings under API Documentations for things like

  • Old Google Reader documentation
  • New Implementations
  • Google Reader clones
  • etc

licensing

How should this spec be licensed?

I would be in favour of placing it into the public domain, or alternatively under some very permissive Creative Commons license.

News?

Hello,
Is there still some life here? Hope so :-)

A few years later, it looks like many RSS servers and clients are based on the Google Reader API, at least more than any other API that I can find.

I was recently made aware that @brutasse has done a great job of documenting that API:
https://feedhq.readthedocs.io/en/latest/api/index.html
I would thus suggest to rely on it to replace the many remaining TODOs on the Open-Reader-API Web site. (Or even just link to it, to start with)

This move would also help to list the known compatible servers and clients.

In related news, FreshRSS (server) has been supporting the Google Reader API for several years, and even better since recently, thanks to some collaboration with @barijaona from Vienna RSS (client)
