Is there a way we could put a github logo (linked to this repo) in the footer of the website? It often takes me a while to figure out how to get here from the website when I want to make a change.
To whom it may concern (@benvanwerkhoven maybe?) :
I have recently sent an email to Arizona State Uni which was blocked. I've now heard back from ASU why that was:
Our Server folks took a look at the logs, and it looks like your emails are being blocked due to a bad link, the URL researchsoftware DOT org. This can be verified at the following link. https://www.barracudacentral.org/lookups/lookup-reputation. You'll either need to remove the URL, or if you own the domain, please reach out to barracuda to have them improve reputation.
I've checked, and Barracuda says:
The domain name researchsoftware.org is listed on Barracuda's Intent Block List. To report any issues regarding your domain reputation, please contact [email protected].
The domain name researchsoftware.org was found under the following categories: search-engines-portals
Some contributors aren't in the contributor list yet, e.g., @alysbrett, @mwoodbri, @SimonHettrick, @shensicle. Create a PR to add them and let the all contributors bot do the rest.
GitHub will create new repositories with main
as default branch.
As changing the name isn't costly (the only manual change is in existing local environments) but allows us to move away from controversial terminology, I'm all for making this change.
Should be briefly discussed at the next meeting of the Council.
It seems that additions from PRs may delete entries, hence trying to add myself to list from an issue here:
@all-contributors please add @sdruskat for content, documentation, maintenance.
@RSE-leaders/researchsoftware-org For some reason, https://researchsoftware.org cannot be accessed since a couple of hours. Any idea, why?
As discussed during the meeting today, there should be documentation for how to do this.
@all-contributors please add @alysbrett for content, maintenance, blog posts and ideas.
I always thought Gemfile should be part of the repository so that we can all create a consistent environment when testing local previews. I will send a PR addressing this but feel free to close and comment if there is a good reason not to.
Now that we have two blog posts, should be have a blog page showing the posts and a link to it in the top menu along with "associations" and "contact"?
Our mail addresses are exposed to webrobots and crawlers at https://researchsoftware.org/council.html. Could we use javascript obfuscation or a captcha to hide the addresses? Sorry, I just saw in the source you are using an obfuscator already. But apparently these addresses are still indexed by google... e.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=%22c.wyatt%40society-rse.org%22 So it does not seem to work that well
I think it would make sense if the Council page (see #24) listed the current delegates.
Alejandra Gonzalez-Beltran asked if the blogposts on the website have a license, when I checked I noticed that the website doesn't have a license at all. I'd like to change that ASAP, and I think we should probably use a CC-BY license, what do you think? @sdruskat
I'm finding it a bit hit and miss whether the flag emojis show up in various browsers... it's a bit ugly the way they are replaced by the letter codes when missing.
As discussed during the Council meeting today, there should be an events page where the member associations can add their events.
Setup the domain name researchsoftware.org to point to this site.
Filing here as there isn't a more suitable repo.
For the organization of RSE events (RSE conferences, Leaders meetings, etc.), it'd be helpful to have some sort of calendar where the intl. RSE groups can block their dates so that clashes can be avoided. I think this should be "private", i.e., not a website, but rather something in a repo (simple Markdown file might be enough?), as dates shift and may not be publishable up to a point.
Also, it shouldn't contain all the research software events there are, but only those strictly relevant to the international RSE community. I'm thinking national conferences/workshops, leaders meetings, perhaps SSI events such as Collaborations Workshop, etc.
In the Feb 2022 council meeting, I volunteered to make a page that links to individual society/association jobs pages, so that each of them could link to this page for jobs that don't fall in their scope.
During the Council Meeting on 1 April, we should decide on a CoC to use for the Council and the website, then add links where it's necessary:
Several of us in the US have been working on our RSE website, and it’s far enough along now to publicize: http://us-rse.org/
Could you please add a link to this from the Associations page? (With a caveat that the site is still under construction.) Thanks!
do we need to be accepted into a project or group, or is being registered on github enough?
In order to be able to run sub-sites from different repos, we'd need to rename this repository to RSE-leaders.github.io
. Once this is done, the SORSE20 and potentially an Intl. RSE Leaders Meeting 2020 page could be developed separately in their respective repositories.
Then, their "original" GH Pages URLS (e.g., RSE-leaders.github.io/SORSE20
) would be caught by the custom domain name and rendered as researchsoftware.org/SORSE20
.
I'd be happy to make the move, unless it would break the current setup (perhaps @shensicle or @benvanwerkhoven know?).
I was thinking of making the landing page a bit more entertaining by perhaps showing the 3 most recent blog posts or something. What do you think? I think we first had all blog posts on the landing page. I'm not sure why they have been removed at the time, I guess it got a bit too cluttered as the number of posts grew, but now the page seems rather empty and the site appears stale/outdated as there is no hint no fresh content. If we list a few of the recent blog posts that's an immediate sign of recent activity to people who come across the landing page.
We decided to move this repository to another GH org: https://github.com/rse-council.
