It would be great to have a twitter handle for all research training in Australia.
We could then tag any tweets with this so that people could keep track of events. We could add #astronomy and other domain things to make it easier to search on events.
We could also create a central twitter account that some members of the community can use to share events (or even do one that automatically retweets the twitter handle).
some options might be to keep it consistent with this github eg.

Great to see the community coming together. I would like a quick introduction of everyone so we know who is who and where to find each other beyond this Github rep.
To start off:
I'm Chantal Huijbers, training manager for the EcoScience DEVL/RDC. I've developed most training material for the Biodiversity and Climate Change Virtual Lab, which includes an online open course (https://app.bccvl.org.au/training), and workshop material that is now integrated in several undergraduate courses around Australia. I also manage the EcoEd program which is a joint initiative of BCCVL, ALA and TERN, for more info: www.ecoed.org.au
I am based at Griffith University, Gold Coast, e-mail: [email protected]
Great thread here:

Can we (as a starting point) start to collate these together?
There was a list of about 10 in a meeting - listed below. But straight away I can see that we will need to catalogue them to make this worthwhile.
Also, how do we divine the quality of the material we share?
Science Gateways Bootcamp model for 1) train-the-trainer and 2) DEVL/RDC users: include marketing, skills models etc
Training materials hub for repurposing and adapting for undergrad lecturers eg Sheffield Uni UK, EcoEd has a website
AGU is building a training materials hub for FAIR
AODN/IMOS have worked with Sydney Institute of Marine Science/UNSW and other Sydney based universities/UTAS/others? to integrate training in undergraduate courses - training provided by AODN staff, assessment by university lecturers

Hi All,
To try and keep the momentum going, we should probably have regular meetings to share ideas around a specific topic.
I would suggest that we have them on the second Friday of every month around 11am - would that suit most people?
Also please have a look at what was talked about in the November meeting or any other issues that were created and if something is of interest, create an issue based off that topic:
#2
For example, an issue around champions should definitely be created as this is in most DEVL/RDC skills focuses. But it's up to the community to lead this, not myself - so if this is a topic you would like to dive deep into, then create an issue.
The issue that gets the most comments will probably be the one we want to discuss first.

I am interested in seeing how the Australian organizations involved with - or peripheral to - training are connected. Does anyone have a visual representation of this? e.g. ANDS, RDS, Nectar, particular nodes, and many more.
Next meeting is on Friday the 9th of March at 11am.
We need:
Pleast put in the comments what you would like to discuss and if you would like to put your hand up as a facilitator.

Just reminded me of this great paper that he and his student Andrea Batch published last year. Unfortunately it went somewhat unnoticed but it's full of really important observations on how to make visualization more useful for data scientists:

Dear colleagues
You are invited to participate in the 2018 AeRO National Forum, to be held on the 14 of March 2018 in Canberra.

Read more about the AeRO Forums at http://aero.edu.au/forum2018/
The annual AeRO National Forum is a one day event, which attracts senior staff from its members as well as eResearch leads from institutions, NCRIS capabilities, discipline communities, research centres, funding bodies, government and other agencies. Representatives from the Department of Education and Training also attend. At the 2017 Forum, we had over 100 attendees from over 50 organisations, and we expect this year to be even bigger.
The theme for this year’s theme is “The NRDC Grand Challenge“.
The key attributes/outcomes of the original National Collaborative Research Infrastructure Strategy (NCRIS) investments in 2006 were that they were national and collaborative. Perhaps more significantly, they were also disruptive and there is no doubt they have enabled Australian researchers to differentiate themselves on a global scale, particularly in relation to the use of digital techniques and the role data plays in modern research.
The NRDC Grand Challenge is therefore to reduce the complexity, improve the ease of use, lower the barrier to entry, and increase the adoption of digital data tools and techniques for all Australian researchers by establishing a cohesive and sustainable approach to fostering the development of digital data skills and the integration of digital data technology platforms and practices.
We are currently confirming a number of speakers after which we will issue the final agenda for the Forum, via email and the web.
All information about this event, and a link to the registration page, are at http://www.aero.edu.au/FORUM2018 where you will also find information about previous Forums, including presentations and other notes.
General Attendee tickets for the event are $250, and $200 for CAUDIT members. AeRO Members are entitled to up to two free tickets.
I’m seeking again to schedule it (10am-5pm) so that it can be a day-trip for most of those from interstate.
In the meantime, please reserve the date in your diary, and book your ticket as early as possible to ensure your seat. If you are unable to attend personally we would welcome your nomination of an alternate senior person to represent your organisation.
We look forward to seeing you on the day. If you have any questions or suggestions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with me.
Thank you!
Sam

eg. I got some feedback that said:
What is a compute cluster?
How do I process my huge data on my desktop?
The skills needed are understanding of virtual machines and centralised systems including repositories.
From a previous discussion, here were some topics that people wanted to work together on.
One difficult one is to standardise training formats. How do we work out which ones are useful and easy to do (low hanging fruit?)
Sustainability/Outreach
Making training materials more sustainable eg badges, certification
Pedagogy for trainers
Network of trainers that facilitates discussion and Q&A between trainers
Provide access to a register of potential users/communication channels for promoting training
Courses/Workshops
Carpentry courses specifically for domains engaged with DEVLs
Joint workshops with other NCRIS/VLs
Commonality/standardisation/Infrastructure
Develop some common FAIR training materials we can all use (and adapt for each domain focus)
Standardise format for training materials
Infrastructure to support training materials and agree formats
Incorporate standard ‘data management’ training
Coordinated skills branding like EcoEd (Champions program), ClimateEd, HASSEd - with training materials.
Identify needs
Surveys to identify training needs
Other big picture ideas people want to explore in later sessions
As Chantal won't be able to make this meeting to talk about the BCCVL Champions program, perhaps we could pick up on other topics of interest raised by the group. Things I noted were:
-- The Research Training Implementation Plan (Paul Wong)
--Influencing curriculum development for undergraduate studies (Paul Wong, Robert Shen)
--TREES framework for data trainers (Susannah Sabine)
That's probably too much for one meeting so we could split these across the next couple of meetings.
Any votes on what people would like to hear about on April 13?
