What you're seeing seems to be an error where gevent doesn't like other things doing async.
Haven't really used gevent stuff before, but for the most part request-futures is intended to be used in cases where there isn't an event loop system like gevent so it's not known to work (or not) and it may make sense to do something more gevent centric for async http. Again don't really know anything about gevent, but often event loop systems like that want/need to control everything and don't play well with other stuff trying to do threads/async.
