Perhaps it is getting removed/ignored down the line, I'll keep looking at the bloom stuff.

It looks like that's not getting added. And the most likely reason I see for that is that there might be a bug in the tree walking such that the if statement is never getting hit.

@dirk-thomas pointed out that they were in the descriptions at one point, so the fix might be in bloom, but the change in behavior probably doesn't come from generate_debian.py.

Not sure where the right place is nowadays (rosrelease / bloom / catkin). Seems like it works for "apt-cache search multiarray" but not "apt-cache search amcl".

There is code in bloom to do this. However it appears broken. std-msgs is found when searching for multiarray due to it being in the text description as an example message.
This will only work for new style packages though.

Works for stacks with packages exactly one level deep. For ros_comm, for example, this does not work because of the package layout. geometry, however, does work.
Won't fix as this will be resolved when we move to packages only.
