coloredpassword's Issues

Spelling (or translation) error

"Single click passwort [sic] to unhide"

(BTW, is this a new option? Because I would have turned it off if I had noticed it before.)

Selecting multiple entries cauuses display problems when using Dark Mode

Overview

When using Dark Mode (via the KeeTheme plugin), selecting multiple entries causes text display for all columns other than Password in entry list to corrupt.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install KeeTheme plugin and set to Dark Mode.
  2. Install ColoredPassword and set "Color passwords in entry list"
  3. Select a number of entries in the Entry List view (e.g. with -A)
  4. Observe that all columns other than Password display incorrectly. They seem to display twice, with one set slightly offset to the right.

Expected Behavior

Expect display of columns other than Password to not be altered in any way.

Actual Behavior

All columns other than Password display incorrectly. They seem to display twice, with one set slightly offset to the right.
Removing ColoredPassword, or removing Kee Theme, or setting Kee Theme to not use Dark Mode all resolve the issue. (But I'm trying to achieve coloured passwords with a dark mode).

Context

OS: Windows 11 Pro
KeePass Version: 2.53 (64-bit)
Plugin Version: 0.15

Focus issues

With the release of KeePass 2.49, two issues can be observed

Unhiding a password does no longer place the cursor in the password input field / does not focus the password input field properly
This affects all forms where passwords can be shown in plaintext (masterkey prompt, masterkey change, entry form, ...)

Additionally in the masterkey forms, focus is lost when you enter a character into an empty password input field.

Both can easily be worked around by simply placing the cursor in the password input field again.

A fix is in progress

[Enhancement] release 📦 Releases on Repository of Chocolatey packages

Hello, this is not an issue in itself. Just a suggestion. Would be nice to have an auto update feature for this primary security applications plugin from a trusted source. The SHA256 hash of PLRGX can be verified by installation automatically, optionally if specified. For the lazy ones and to fix incompatibility issue with future of KeePass version updates with plugin by getting all in one place for example.

I don't know if you have the spare time to maintain in parallel the "packages". Which basically would contain a script to URL of GitHub latest release asset.

If you may want to take a look here if you don't know already:
KeePass' plugins packages
(There are many plugins and packages count is growing. )

Another known existing autoupdate integration inside KeePass itself is:
EarlyUpdateCheck KeePass Plugin from which this Plugin is not supported yet.

Release v0.14.2 not working

Overview

The release v0.14.2 does not appear to be in effect, and I had to revert back to previous release v0.14.1 to have the colored passwords again.

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Install the latest release v0.14.2
  2. Launch KeePass
  3. Enter password

Expected Behavior

I would expect the passwords to be colored.

Actual Behavior

All passwords are shown without any coloring.

'Paste' from context menu into Password field appends rather than overwrites

SYMPTOMS
I occasionally require to paste a new password (generated outside KeePass) in to an entry to update it.
I have found when using the ColoredPassword plugin that pasting from the context menu does not operate correctly. It always appends the new entry rather than overwriting.

HOW TO DEMONSTRATE
I recommend using a new dummy database entry to test these instructions rather than risk corrupting a real existing password.

  1. Open the Edit Entry window for the test entry
  2. Unhide the password
  3. Highlight the entire password by double-clicking on any part of it
  4. Right-click to show context menu and select 'Copy'
  5. Right-click to show context menu and select 'Paste'

Instead of pasting the existing password characters on top of the existing password characters (i.e. no change), this action appends the password to itself.
Alternatively, at Steps 3, 4 and 5, try using Ctrl+A, Ctrl+C and Ctrl+V to select, copy and paste. This works correctly, simply overwriting the password.
Using the context menu as in Steps 3 and 4, but using Ctrl+V to paste also works correctly.

As there is a procedure that does work correctly (using keyboard) this does not need to be regarded as urgent or important.
However I would like to have the option of using the context menu at some point in a future release.

Thank you, keep well and best wishes

Enhancement possibility?

Would you consider an enhancement to this plugin as described here? Paul dismisses it as unnecessary, but I can understand the difficulty that it addresses - maybe add some sort of configuration option, normally off, to turn it on for additional fields?

Bad configuration causes misleading error message

As an experiment, I tried deleting the ColoredPassword.ForeColor* <Value>s from KeePass.config.xml, but I kept the <Item>s (without any <Value>s) because I didn't want them moving from their current positions in the file. To my surprise, when I started KeePass like this, it said, "The following plugin is incompatible with the current KeePass version". I know this is an error of my own making, but I thought I'd mention it anyway, just in case you might be interested in adding error correcting code for this in your plugin (assuming that's possible).

Slight conflict with KeeTheme and custom password font size

Overview

When combined with KeeTheme and a larger custom password font size, the password text in an entry does not appear properly:

image

Steps to Reproduce

  1. Configure a custom Password Font in native KeePass. (I'm using size 16 here.)
    image
  2. Install KeeTheme, and enable Dark Theme.
  3. Install and enable ColoredPassword.

Expected Behavior

Passwords should continue to display properly and fully.

ColoredPassword probably needs to provide an option to not set a background color at all / have a transparent background option? As-is and by default, it is set to white, which I'm guessing is interfering here. (I did try setting the background to black, but there also appears to be some sort of a border that is drawn along with it and over the password text that I can't seem to work around.)

Actual Behavior

See the first screenshot under the Overview.

Here are some additional screenshots, showing the various combinations of the custom font size, Dark Theme, and/or Colored Password:

Marking capitilized letters

Hi, thanks for the great plug-in, it really helps when having dislexia and auto-fill is not available.

Yet, i did not find any option to mark/show capitilized letters, where i have allot of problems with.

Thank you.

"(Multiple values)"

For your consideration: When multiple entries are selected for simultaneous editing, and they have different passwords, KeePass indicates this by inserting the text "(Multiple values)" in the password field. Your plugin colorizes this phrase, as if it were the actual password for all the selected records, failing to recognize the special nature of this phrase, and possibly implying that the phrase is actually the current value in all of the selected records. Other fields (and this field when your plugin isn't running) show this string in gray when present; I suggest you modify your plugin to do the same.

uppercase versus lowercase

Summary

I use strongbox on my personal phone and i found very cool the fact thant uppercase and lowercase not the same colour.
If you can add it i will be very greatfull !

Ctrl+A shows an extra blank character

Hello,
I have version 0.11.5.
When I'm visualizing a password.
I try to select all the password using Ctrl+A, an extra blank character is selected. This extra character is not copied, but looks like is selected.

Here is what the password looks like:
