oh-my-cv's Introduction

Hey there, you found me.

Blog Google Scholar Twitter Linkedin Zhihu Email

I'm a dragon lost in human world trying to find a balance between research and engineering. I do machine learning by day and build things for the web by night.

  • ๐Ÿ”ญ Research-wise, I'm interested in machine learning (enhancing generalizability, efficiency, robustness, etc.) and computer vision (large multimodal models, generative models, etc.).
  • ๐Ÿš€ I'm learning to build machine learning softwares and systems.
  • ๐Ÿง I'm also exploring tools like Vue, React and Solid.
  • ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐Ÿ’ป My personal website is zxh.me, built with Astro. It's simple and serious, much like those of other researchers.
  • ๐Ÿ•น๏ธ However, if you wish to see some "interesting" versions, here are my portfolio, dashboard, and interactive resume.
  • ๐Ÿ‘พ Currently interested in building things in Minecraft.

oh-my-cv's Issues

Dataloss when clicking on My Resumes

First of all Thanks for your good work and open contributions to a such a tool.

Issue:

All changes are lost when forgot to save and miss-click on My Resumes, without any warning prompts or what ever, all changes are lost.

Links not working in PDF?

Upon exporting my CV in PDF with links to my LinkedIn/Portfolio and email (mailto: link) I noticed that when i open the pdf all the links are not imported and dont work.

Pretty big issue as I would not send a CV that doesnt have links working and recruiters unfortunately dont accept markdown :D

Ability to use in vscode or similar

I was wondering if there is a way to use the generated CSS file in vscode or any similar application to view and edit the markdown file.
This is purely for backup e.g. in case I am on an unknown machine and need to edit my CV in an emergency or github servers arent working for whatever reason. I do have the whole repo cloned in case I never need to just run it locally.

I know these are extreme edge cases but for my CV I do like to keep them in a format where come hell or high water I can still edit and make things work. I currently using LaTeX but I am hoping I can get the same results with Markdown as I just find it quicker to work with.

Issue with rounded corners

I've added a top border to my CV using the following code: "#vue-smart-pages-preview {
border-top: 10px solid black; /*
}"

However, since the preview page has rounded corners, the area outside the rounded corners remains white once the CV is exported:

CV does not fit in the 'Export PDF' option.

It's a super nice and lightweight app. Thank you.

However, when i tried to export PDF. the CV on the print pop-up is different from the web display.
It's smaller. Can you please fix it ?

my environments are

  • macos Sonoma 14.0
  • Chrome (not work in Safari as well)

More default templates

At the moment the only template we have is the default one, sure we can customize it with css but it would be nice to have more default templates to choose from

Bulk Generation

Any chance to add the feature of variables in the text and then upload a CSV to generate bulk content?

Or is it there a way to use the tool as a CLI?

Thank you for such a great tool!

ohmycv.com doesn't load anymore on my browser?

So I'm trying to access the app via ohmycv.app
image

However it is not loading as you can see, that being said If i open a different browser or an incognito tab it does load.. the problem is all my cv's are lost when I do that, how can I fix this or at least recover my cvs?

How to export and import cv's on different computers?

I created a CV on one computer and want to import it on another computer, there is an option to import json but i cant find a json file to import?

Only way i've managed to import my cv is to copy paste markdown and css but even then the selected options from the menu are not preserved.

THanks,

Using Standard Computer Fonts

I think the idea behind making a markdown CV is it should be simple and easy yet somewhat flxible.

the problem with the tool right now is you can use only google fonts, so the most popular fonts, especially for CV's - Times New Roman. Arial, Helvetica,Calibri etc. are actually not available, this causes several problems:

  1. You can't have an actually simple CV that uses a font available on ALL computers using google fonts
  2. You can't use the tried and true classic fonts used since decades in your CV, the best you can do is find a look-a-like in google fonts
  3. Google fonts has A LOT of fonts and picking the right one for your CV is hard and confusing, a lot of the fonts are actually not suitable for a CV so this extra choice just adds non-needed complexity.

My suggestion is at the very least to add classic fonts like Arial,Times New Roman,Calibri, Helvetica etc. to the dropdown and make one of them them be the default.

As a workaround in css on the heading you can specify font-family: Arial, Helvetica, sans-serif; and over write the google fonts but this has to be tested better.

PDF Export text not selectable

When you export (print in pdf) the text in the outputed pdf file is not selectable or hilightable in any pdf reader, this is a big deal breaker as it hinders accesibility and text cant be copied easily from the cv.

add "expertice" field under name

Hi there,

Is it possible to have a option to put the expertise of a individual onder the name? This would allow for a clear demonstration of the expertise in one glance.

Something like this, or another implementation?

name: Haha Ha
Expertise: Engineer X
header:

Thanks for making a great tool!

Image on CV

Hello,

It would be nice if users can upload optional image for CV. Maybe put it in top corner somewhere. I can help with development of this feature if you like idea.
