Ordeal automates the following:

$ stack ghci myproject
...
ghci> import Main
ghci> Main.main
-- listening on localhost:3000
-- edit some files...
Ctrl-c
ghci> :reload
ghci> import Main
ghci> Main.main
-- repeat

Ordeal might be anagram of reload.

Installation

$ git clone [email protected]:reiddraper/ordeal.git
$ cd ordeal
$ stack build && stack install

Usage

To use Ordeal, you'll need a .ordeal file, which has the commands to run your project.

$ cat .ordeal
import Main
Main.main

# examples
$ ordeal # defaults to `stack ghci`
$ ordeal stack ghci myproject
$ ordeal cabal repl

ordeal's Issues

Won't compile on GHC 7.10 because of Data.Monoid.mempty

I upgraded the resolver to LTS-4.0, which worked great after I removed the import of mempty in Ordeal.

src/Ordeal.hs:11:1: Warning:
    The import of ‘mempty’ from module ‘Data.Monoid’ is redundant

<no location info>: 
Failing due to -Werror.

Please consider implementing this as a Stack plugin

Gnarly when working with vim

When using vim, ordeal runs .ordeal commands five times for every save.

Hangs indefinitely when .stack-work directory is empty

Running ordeal in a brand new stack project created with stack new Xxx hangs indefinitely while consuming tons of CPU.

Running stack ghci first, and then ordeal works fine.

Freezes when project contains type errors

When the project contains type errors, the ordeal command starts and then hangs while pegging the CPU.

Add .ordeal example for default Stack project

It would be super helpful to have a working example of an .ordeal file for whatever project is created via stack new Xxx.

I'm getting all kinds of strange output in the console when using the following in my .ordeal:

Notice the repeated Main and Lib in the prompt.

Missing field in record construction child_group

Running ordeal emits an error

Any idea?
