FYI I'm seeing this in problem causing a check failure in odbc: https://www.stats.ox.ac.uk/pub/bdr/clang18/odbc.log so I'd appreciate it if you have time to get a fix to CRAN in the not too distant future.

Sure. First off the release happened yesterday a few days ago and second as you can see in the extended comments in #1287 (which i am sure you consulted) a number of packages made use of the provided pre-releases that have been available since November.
