My dotfiles use a bare repo, like https://github.com/anandpiyer/.dotfiles/blob/master/.dotfiles/README.md
- Install homebrew:
/bin/bash -c "$(curl -fsSL https://raw.githubusercontent.com/Homebrew/install/HEAD/install.sh)"
-
Install
fish
and configure: i. Install withbrew install fish
ii. addfish
toecho /opt/homebrew/bin/fish | sudo tee -a /etc/shells
-
Download IBM Plex Mono from
https://github.com/IBM/plex
and https://github.com/ryanoasis/nerd-fonts/blob/master/src/glyphs/Symbols-1000-em%20Nerd%20Font%20Complete.ttf -
Clone dotfiles directories:
git clone --separate-git-dir=$HOME/.dotfiles https://github.com/r-tae/dotfiles.git tmpdotfiles
rsync --recursive --verbose --exclude '.git' tmpdotfiles/ $HOME/
rm -r tmpdotfiles
I use hammerspoon to set up a hyperkey, which is currently only used for application- and space-switching
brew install hammerspoon
- Rebind Capslock to F18 (hammerspoon will treat it as caps when tapped) on startup by adding the plist in this repo to
launchctl
:
launchctl load ~/Library/LaunchAgents/local.KeyMapping.plist
launchctl start local.KeyRemapping.plist
```
3. Change mission control keyboard shortcuts to use hyper+{hjkl} (Preferences->Keyboard->Shortcuts). MacOS won't recognise keystrokes sent by hammerspoon, so you'll have to make the bindings by holding the real shortcuts (shift+ctl+opt+cmd+{hjkl})
TODO: Add sections for:
- install & configure fish shell
- add brewfile for the basics:
- starship
- firefox
- hammerspoon(??)
- spiceify
- theming: entirely [catppuccin](https://github.com/catppuccin/catppuccin)
This includes:
- firefox
- alfred
- kitty
- discord
- spotify
- install & configure neovim
- other: \
exa mapped to ls (incl. `la`)
TODO: create (otherwise unused) folder for non-dotfiles related setup automation, perhaps shell scripts to download/setup the more complicated things
## Misc settings
### Use touch ID for sudo
This is easy to do, all that's required is appending the following to `/etc/pam.d/sudo`:
auth sufficient pam_tid.so
Do **not** write and quit this file without checking the effects, and leave the original contents open in a second editor with privileges to write the file out. The first time I tried this I accidently deleted the file (I'm not sure how) which left me unable to sudo. If this happens, an admin login + Finder allows you to put it back.
