mobile-hosts's Introduction

Mobile HOSTS

HOSTS files converted or sourced from various mobile filter lists to prevent ads and tracking.

Currently includes:

These lists will be updated from time-to-time. To update them yourself, the repo includes a PHP-CLI script (converter.php) that converts ad filter lists into HOSTS files. View the source for more details. Send a pull request if you want me to add a specific filter list.

FWIW, I personally just use AdGuard Mobile Ads and AdGuard Mobile Tracking and Spyware on my mobile devices.

Other good HOSTS files

How to use?

Copy one of the above URLs into any HOSTS app that allows adding URLs as a source.

Originally created for use with Android. For unrooted devices, use personalDNSfilter. For rooted devices, try AdAway. All are available on F-Droid.

It is worth noting that DNSfilter can handle wildcard entries, which will offer better subdomain blocking coverage, but uses Android's built-in VPN to handle the blocking.

Alternatives for Android

Instead of using a HOSTS file, if you are on Android Pie or above, you can use the Private DNS (DNS over TLS) feature from a reputable provider like AdGuard, NextDNS or Quad9 for blocking. NextDNS allows you to choose various filter lists when you create an account with them, whereas AdGuard DNS covers the lists mentioned above and Quad9 specifically offers protection from malware and phishing.

REQ: add these kochava tracking domains to your block list

These are fresh 5 month old domains, obfuscated to not appear associated with kochava, and very little info on them, but I dug deep and found they are all related to kochava analytics.

"Kochava is the industry leader for mobile app attribution and mobile app analytics. Kochava provides an industry leading Analytics and Reporting system which clearly displays insights into users’ behavior, habits, and traffic patterns. Kochava sorts through vast amounts of data and using predictive analysis techniques can identify actionable insights into business."

Please add the following kochava domains to your block list:

co.akisinn.info
co.dewrain.life
co.vaicore.site
co.vaicore.xyz
int.akisinn.info
int.akisinn.me

tok.vaicore.xyz

Most of the above were calling out from my mobile. https://threatcrowd.org/domain.php?domain=int.vaicore.xyz

AdguardApps.txt isn't updated by script

Hello! Thank you for the awesome lists, It's perfect to use them with dnsmasq. Can you please add ability to update AdguardApps.txt via converter.php script?

c.paypal.com

@r-a-y for now it's just a possible false-positive. Will need to confirm my findings first before any decisions are made.
I do belive the domain is needed when buying something from Ebay and proceed to pay through PayPal.
Last time was just a rolling circle and wouldn't allow me to make the payment so i ended up whitelisting bunch of domains from various lists that i'm using(was already frustrated enough) just to get through and couldn't confirm which one was the culprit.
On my next purchase i'll have more info, for sure so let's keep this open, for now.
It's originally from easyprivacy_specific:
https://github.com/easylist/easylist/blob/ce7fc79133f7b671a8892b1324a5fba4b10e6dbf/easyprivacy/easyprivacy_specific.txt#L126
If it's not it,i'll just close this at later date. Thanks πŸ‘

Convert internationalized domains to punycode

I've been using your AdguardDNS with my pihole installation. Thanks for the great work.
However, there are some (4) domains with Cyrillic letters that will be rejected by pihole unless they are formatted to punycode. Could you update your converter to automatically convert all domains with non-ASCII letters to punycode?

P.S There is one additional error as it contains a line with 'mxtads.com:8040' which is also rejected because of the colon.

Thank you!

I just wanted to say thank you for these hosts.
I came upon them when I was searching for host files for Adguard. I wanted a lean host file tailored towards mobile apps (long host files really made my device slow)، and in-app browsers when rarley used. So adguard mobile ads and adguard mobile tracking and sypware hosts were the best choice for me (together are β‰ˆ 1500 domains). In the end I found my self using the same host files as you.
I only added three more domains for ads to disappear completely:

pagead2.googleadservices.com
pagead2.googlesyndication.com
googleads.g.doubleclick.net

Really thanks for creating these hosts.

Converter.php

Hi @r-a-y

I'm using your lovely converter.php script to import various sources into my search library https://github.com/external-sources/hosts-sources, however, do to what appears to be a bug in one of the sources https://github.com/mitchellkrogza/Phishing.Database/ where the ALL-phishing-links.txt contains all the domains from ALL-phishing-domains.txt. I've come to the need to be able to import a lists full of URI's, while I can only use the plain domains. Is this a option you could build into the script?

I would be very happy, if you could help whit this feature, as I rely on it when I investigate domain

Future note: Slowly, like very slowly, learning Rust language, and that project domain-hub is to take over hosts-sources

Excuse me

@r-a-y

AdguardMobileAds.txt
Can you manually add these ad hosts to the file to block the blockade?

admob.com
ad.ettoday.net
e.598md.cn
googletagservices.com
vj.quanjingpay.com

thanks!

Remove duplicates from filter list

See StevenBlack/hosts#1181 (comment)

Duplicate domains can be created from the converter. Probably due to stripping some of the ad filter syntax rules is causing this.

To remove the duplicates, would have to either track all domains before generation or do a simple string comparison. Would probably try the latter approach first. This would increase the memory usage and conversion time though. (Update - the former approach worked better πŸ˜„ )

What should China add

Hello, what rules do you apply to China
The persondns filter is installed on my mobile phone
I find your rules don't work in blokada No effect
