talks's Introduction

Talks

In the issue section of this repository, we track conferences and other events relevant for Prometheus.

The idea is that Prometheus developers can recommend conferences suitable for Prometheus-related talks and then coordinate talk submissions to avoid overlapping proposals.

If you know of a relevant conference, add an issue with the title, location, and date of the conference in the title. (To avoid ambiguities, please use ISO 8601 date format, i.e. YYYY-MM-DD.) Use labels to mark the CFP (call for papers) as open or closed. Link to the CfP and mention its deadline in the body of the issue. Anybody can then comment on their planned submissions.

Once the event is over, close the issue.

DevOpsCon Berlin, 2020-06-08→11

CfP closes 2019-12-16: https://devopsconference.de

I have given a talk at each of the previous incarnation (sometimes with Julius, sometimes with Fabian, sometimes alone). The conference has grown a lot in size (I think there have been six tracks last time over two conference days, plus two workshop days) and has become quite international. However, most talks are not overly exciting, and the majority of the audience is on a basic level. I tried to ramp up the level of my talks over time, expecting that basic Prometheus knowledge should be fairly widespread in the DevOps community, which wasn't really a success. My guess is this is a great place to reach many people with introductory talks, but you shouldn't expect a whole lot of monitoring specialists.

Is this repo useful?

We've had this repo around for a while. Only a minority of Prometheans make regular use of it. Which makes it only marginally useful for coordination of talk proposals.

Perhaps it's better to just mail prometheus-team@ to avoid overlapping talk proposals from team members?

Thoughts?

@beorn7 plans to submit something about lockfree histograms in client_golang.
Let's coordinate if you want to submit something, too.

Observability Practitioners Summit, San Diego, CA, 2019-11-18

Note: This is a "sub-conference" of KubeCon, one of the "Day Zero Co-Located Events".

This seems super relevant. Sadly, at the deadline date, we don't know yet what KubeCon/CNCon talk proposals got rejected. I imagine a lot of what we submitted (and what will probably be rejected) would also fit here.

Devops Gathering 2020, Bochum, 2020-03-09→11

CfP deadline 2019-11-10.

4th incarnation of this mid-size conference in a German mid-size city (which is, however, part of the largest urban area in Germany and the third-largest in the European Union). I gave well received Prometheus-related talks previously here. Not sure if I'll have time in 2020. There were other relevant talks about monitoring or in particular Prometheus. (It was here that I learned about Prometheus being used to monitor wind turbines.) Audience is predominantly local from German small and mid-size business, but a good fit for Prometheus topics.
