plainmerge's Issues

Can't output PDFs consistently

I haven't been able to output PDFs consistently. I was able to output a single PDF which had the correct fields filled out, but otherwise, haven't been able to.

M1 Mac on Big Sur 11.5.2

Fill out FDF form fields in a PDF

I love how the fields are imported from the excel spreadsheet, but in my case, I'm trying to fill out a PDF form that has specific form fields that will later be ingested by the receiver, so floating text annotations won't work for my use case.

If you can pull the FDF (forms data format) areas from the PDF and make them drop targets for the merge data, that'd be really cool. (perhaps in addition to the text annotation version you have now, since folks might want to do both annotate and fill out forms)

Then, as a stretch goal, the ability to save the settings for a future use, perhaps using the PDF name as a prefix to avoid confusion.

Support export / import Canvas

Right now we can export the Canvas config file, but without the correct PDF path the app can't work properly. Hence need to export the PDF and the Excel files also.

So the export should be a zip file, and the import will extract it on the app folder.

Does not work on M1 Macs

Cannot run on an M1 Mac on Big Sur โ€” incompatible application.

(I downloaded the 0.0.6 Mac DMG)

Feature requests: Mail merge file names, Field styling, preview all entries, save plainmerge work, etc.

This software is incredible and such a lifesaver! The ability to add merge tags to form fields makes Plainmerge a standout application.

Here are some ideas for future features (let me know if you'd like each to be a separate issue):

  • Using one of the mail merge fields for the file name -> this would save precious file renaming time
  • The ability to preview all the entries before doing the mail merge
  • Having the text styling toolbar always visible, so that it doesn't dissapear when the user scrolls down a long PDF
  • Having the program remember the text styling used previously, rather than having to restyle each field every time I add a new one
  • Batch restyling fields by selecting them using CTRL + SHFT and styling
  • Saving the Plainmerge project file so that users can continue working on a mail merge. For example, I had to close the program and restart my PC, which caused me to lose my work. The History button/function only remembered which Excel sheet and which PDF I had opened.
  • Having the Canvas / Form switch display both titles. I didn't realize that I could attach merge fields to form fields until I saw this issue: #2. Having the switch's function be more obvious could help users understand the additional functionalities.
  • Not sure if this is a thing, but: the ability to upload an updated version of the same Excel sheet without losing the existing work.

Wish I had known about this program sooner. Thanks for making it!
