screentest performance on cygwin

I saw that screentest was slow as hell on Cygwin - I think this might be because the script does a lot of subprocess.Popen()s creating new processes, especially to move the cursor to a new location. This can probably be simplified greatly by just figuring out the sequence that's printed to the terminal. Note:

$ tput cup 1 2 | od -ctx1
0000000 033   [   2   ;   3   H
         1b  5b  32  3b  33  48
0000006

It appears that the input to tput is 0-based but the output is 1-based. That's easy enough to manage!

screentest on home system

I tried the sceentest script on my Linux machine at home and it failed miserably. tput cup does not work as advertised there - the cursor doesn't move anywhere! It stays exactly where it is and I can't figure out what's wrong. I searched on the internet a little and may look into trying out the curses library.
