community-committee's Issues

Community meetup on GSoD.

Taking into consideration that Google Season of Docs' orgs have been announced. So, we can have the final meetup of the sem on it in which we can make everyone aware about the program, its benefits, its timeline and the procedure of starting to contributing to docs.

Call for writing blogs

  • OSDC's blog website has not been updated since the first 2 meetups. Thus, would like to post this open initiative to everyone (even the freshers) to write blogs for each meetup organized by the community.

  • Requesting to post the links of these blogs on OSDC's Facebook Page and OSDC's Medium Channel so that the writer may find his work fruitful. The Medium posting can be automated when the discussed script gets ready.

  • Those interested can append their name to a checklist made here. With one having written the blog, his name's checkbox will get ticked. When the whole list gets completed all the checkboxes will be unchecked again and the cycle loop continues.

  • There may be a doubt that the checkboxes can be ticked and unticked without anyone knowing who did it. We can make the list in README and when the supposed writer writes the blog, he should make a PR to make a tick in front of his name like this: - [x] this is a complete item.

  • Also if someone wants to write blog on his own topic(which should be related to tech/open-source), he can write freely and get his name appended and checked. The checking of names every time will not be made until a PR has been made to comm comm as well the blog repo.

  • One who writes blog will be eligible for some extra swags.

@ryzokuken @darkHarry @saranshbarua @vaibhavk @V1shvesh What do you think?

osdc-bot

Few months back I made a simple osdc-bot which was meant to be a monorepo for other bot projects for OSDC. Currently it only contains source code of greeter bot for OSDC's telegram group and would benefit the community if more people contribute to it.

What more can be done:

  • Add the repository to osdc's group
  • IRC bot

Proposing Connect4 game, designed in Python & Pygame.

What is it?
Connect Four is a two-player connection game in which the players first choose a color and then take turns dropping one colored disc from the top into a seven-column, six-row vertically suspended grid. The pieces fall straight down, occupying the lowest available space within the column. The objective of the game is to be the first to form a horizontal, vertical, or diagonal line (+ve, -ve) of four of one's own discs.

Currently, the Implementation of this game is based only for two players, there are a lot of improvements which can be made to the game, a few features which can be added are:

  • Restructuring & Refactoring the Code. (top priority)
  • Adding sockets to make it multiplayer over the same network.
  • Making Game AI
  • ScreenShot Feature (Window) (low priority)
  • Writing Unit Test for the Game.
  • Making a Score Board/ Taking Input of Names of both players.
  • we can try to implement Connect 5 ( Board Size different )
  • Adding Comments to the code (following style guide)
  • Make an Option to choose various themes in the Game.
  • Improving the Readme of the Project.

.

I was really moved with the working and the idea of the organisation that I would like to join it. I will do my best to contribute to make the org better, so I request you to invite me.
There were also a couple of repos that I would improve and many more to contribute, so I look forward to your reply

Start fleshing milestones out in the README

The README is out, let's start a public discussion over GitHub issues and PRs and sort our initial work out.

@V1shvesh @darkHarry @saranshbarua please propose the initiatives you'll be willing to champion for and then add yourselves as team members. Also, propose ideas for projects concurrently. Make sure to mark projects you'll be willing to maintain if any.

Project a week

Project a week

I will like to introduce an initiative under OSDC named project a week.

Motive

To make all interested people to get involved in the organization and contribute as per there knowledge and getting the experience of working on live projects and in an organization under the mentorship of OSDC members.

Structure

Mentors:- All the OSDC members of TC and CC

Idea introduction:- Can be done by anyone(student or mentor)

Project maintainer:- project introducer or someone decided by mentors. I will be highly interested to take this one.

Contributor:- Everyone is free to contribute. Even mentors.

Target:- working together to complete a project in a week.

Idea to be introduced:- before Saturday in the week u want to do the project to be started

Project week:-

  1. Sunday to Saturday
  2. Every week will be a project week except exam week which will be the improvement or look-back week. In the look-back week, there will be no new project but if u wish u can improve any previous project.
  3. Every Saturday or Monday we can have a meetup on discussing how will we be doing next week project.

Benefits

  1. Both hostlers and day scholars can contribute.
  2. Each and everyone can contribute.

Add permissions template

I believe we could add a template for the permissions doc in markdown format to this repository, so that in future we could just use the template.

@V1shvesh would you please add it?
