Prototype terminal client for Orbit

Status: The project hasn't been updated in a long time and is definitely out of date. We would love help, if you're interested in contributing!

Hats off to irssi, inseparable since 2001.

Built with the following packages:

• orbit-core - Core Orbit communication library.
• orbit-db - Serverless, p2p database that orbit-core uses to store its data.
• js-ipfs - A new p2p hypermedia protocol for content-addressed storage.

Run

Get the source code and install dependencies:

git clone https://github.com/orbitdb/orbit-textui.git
cd orbit-textui
npm install

Start the program:

npm start

Or instead of npm start, run the following to specify your chat name:

node index <nickname>

orbit-textui's Issues

Sending message throws TypeError

When I hit return to send a message, the following is displayed in the log window:
[Timestamp] -!- ERROR! TypeError: "string" must be a string, Buffer or ArrayBuffer

It is thrown when orbit.send(_currentChannel, input) is called (index.js, line 198), even when input is typeof string.. so most likely not a problem with -textui, but I wasn't sure were else to post this.

Can't see messages in #ipfs channel while logged in with orbit-textui

After starting up IPFS daemon and connecting to Orbit DEV Network, I can't see any messages on #ipfs (or any other, for that matter) channel sent from orbit.chat, and vice versa - messages sent from orbit-textui do not appear in same channel on orbit.chat.

After installing orbit-textui on clean Debian system, ENOENT for config file on startup

Trying to reproduce #2 on another machine, I got the following error after the first run:

(node:12986) UnhandledPromiseRejectionWarning: Unhandled promise rejection (rejection id: 1): Error: ENOENT: no such file or directory, open 'data/username/ipfs/config'

After which startup is stopped.
