The Roberta Lab wants an update for the Firmware of the EV3, but I have the latest Version "EV3 leJOS 0.9.1" installed.

While following the instructions at https://jira.iais.fraunhofer.de/wiki/display/ORInfo/set+up+EV3+-+System+leJOS+0.9.1, I ran into a curious issue where the installation would get stuck at "Installing rootfs". The install would not make progress, and the little spinner on the display would freeze until I pulled the SD card and reset the EV3.

When pulling the SD card and examining it, I found that there was only one 500MiB partition on the card, and that even though the system had reported that it was creating a linux fs earlier in the installation, there was no filesystem .

In my case, I was able to solve the problem by creating the appropriate partitions beforehand: one 500 MiB FAT32 partition at the start of the SD card, and an ext2 partition which fills the rest of the drive. All of the installation material is copied as per the linked instructions into the 500 MiB partition. Here is an example of what the configuration looks like in GParted:

This issue is similar in appearance to quite a few other issues found around the internet (see e.g. here) and here, but none of the suggested solutions on those posts were helpful to me. I'm sharing this here in the hopes that it helps someone out in the future.

(I thought that this might be happening because parted was failing to create a partition, but I inserted code into the install scripts that would trigger an error if parted failed, and everything went fine until it got to "Installing rootfs", so I have no idea what's going on. I'd be happy to provide any additional information that might help, but since this procedure is working for me, I have no immediate need for a fix).
