Backtrace

The issue is caused by bug in lprint/pappl, which does not set the correct default page size, but we should end up with error and not with crash.

The neo-feudal dark age + the first amendment = neo-luddite address of printing resource.... and I(II) resent that.

The code line here looks like a typo - everything multiplied by zero is zero.

libppd 2.0b3 is checking for cups-config that is not (yet?) part of new libcups 3.0b1 so the build fails here for Arch Linux:

Wrong media limits for A4 paper using HP OfficeJet 7740 Pro due ignoring duplicated sizes in ppdCacheCreateWithPPD()

Describe the bug
When printing A4 pages with the printer a wrong media size is used. See https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/cups/+bug/2040270 for more details. I have the same issue on arch

To Reproduce
Steps to reproduce the behavior:
Print A4 pages with the HP OfficeJet 7740 Pro.
Media has wrong offset as the printer thinks the paper has media limits of: 0.42 x 0.42 to 27.52 x 35.14 cm

Expected behavior
Print normal A4 pages

System Information:

OS and its version: latest Arch Linux, above linked bug is on Ubuntu 23.04
Application: Evince 45 and Firefox tested
CUPS version 2.4.7

PPD option JCLToPDFInterpreter's value is not decoded, breaks printing for PDF+PJL PPDs

Describe the bug
If PPD uses PDF as output format and uses PJL, printing does not work for printers installed with such PPD - output file is created, but it is broken due:

Additional context
The discrepancy in the output file happens because the value of the option JCLToPDFInterpreter is not decoded when reading it from PPD file - decoding is hidden only for CUPS 3.X:

For CUPS 2.X, the option and value stays among PPD attributes value, where it is not decoded.

I can see two ways how to fix this:

remove the ifdefs related to this value - I'm not entirely sure why only this part should be different for CUPS 3.x/2.x,
make ppd_decode() extern, and call it in ppdEmitJCLPDF() when we have CUPS 2.x.

@tillkamppeter which one do you prefer? (I have patch ready for the second for the record)

Is this quality range right?

I'm using driverless to generate a PPD for my Brother MFC-L2730DW laser printer (debug output included at the bottom).

The printer publishes the following attributes:

Given the above I was expecting the 3 quality profiles to be 300/600/1200 with a default of 600. But the PPD generated by driverless contains:

I have read the code and my understanding of the implementation is that:

it tries to build a sorted table of supported resolutions
it sees that the printer supports URF and ignores all other formats (and their resolutions)
it only picks the lowest (300) and highest (1200) URF resolutions to add to the list of supported resolutions
then it checks the default resolution for the printer (600) and sees that it's not a in the list of supported resolutions, so it ignores it
it recomputes a default resolution picking the middle entry but as the list has 2 entries, the 2nd entry (index 1 = 1200) is chosen

Is this the intended behaviour in such a scenario? I would argue that, given the attributes above, anything which is not 300/600/1200 can be surprising behaviour to the user. It basically collapses the 3 quality profiles into 2.

In particular, would it be possible to elaborate as to why the algorithm determining the resolution choices for URF only picks the worst/best resolutions and ignores everything in between?

Driverless no longer supports pdf

I have reported the bug at
OpenPrinting/cups-filters#574

The Everywhere & the old version driverless (in the cups-filter-1.27) can generate "application/vnd.cups-pdf application/pdf x -" in the ppd file.
But the new version driverless (in the cups-filter-2.0) cannot generate the "application/vnd.cups-pdf application/pdf x -" in the ppd file.

And I have compared the function ppdCreatePPDFromIPP2() vs the ppdCreateFromIPP2().
The behavior changed.
Is it possible to adjust the priority of application-pdf to be higher than image/ufr in the ppdCreatePPDFromIPP2()?

Brother DCP-J125 not printing after update to cups-filters 2.0b3 & 2.0rc1

after update to Fedora 38 and cups-filter rpm package from 1.28 to 2.0 b3 I have a problem with printing on my Brother DCP-J125 - printer do not print at all and do not react for any actions executed from cups. Every print job ends with "No pages found!" error in cups logs. After short investigation below part attract my attention:

From my understanding cups is trying to use universal filter instead of brlpdwrapperdcpj125. This in my opinion could be the source of my problem. Because I am not familiar with cups printing flow I would like to ask you for small help with investigation. Full log can be found in attachment, print job number is 172. Thanks in advance!

2.0.0: loop in build dependencies

Describe the bug

Looks like it is th loop in build dependencies because libppd requires pkgconfifig(libcupsfilters) and on building cups-filters 2.0.0 is required pkgconfifig(libppd). 🤔
Both build time requirements are unconditional so it is not possible to build one of those components first without second one and after building second one rebuild first one with enabled build stage dependency of second one.

Probably only way to build libppd is to build it against pkgconfifig(libcupsfilters) 1.x and than build libcupsfilters 2.x and again rebuild libppd however after that it is not possible to bootstrap both components.

Switch from `cups-config` to `pkg-config`

libppd uses cups-config to find CUPS. It should use pkg-config instead.
