One more question... why does the github page say that openHAB Cloud is "preferred" over direct access to the home server? Is there an advantage?

No, but setting up a smart home skill is not for the faint hearted. Just make sure your proxy server is using real SSL certs (lets encrypt work). Also I don't test at all using this method, but I have been very strict about this skill only using the standard OH REST API and not anything special on myopenhab.

Alright, after wrestling with all that oath setup and such, and fiddling with the SSL cert chain that safari and chrome are happy with, but apparently openssl is not, it's all working. Thx!

Honestly, I am not too keen on seeing the logo modified for special purposes. What speaks against using the plain logo?
