Setup
-----
The baron.conf upstart file starts the daemon as an unprivileged user. Create
the user "baron" and group "barons" to start the process.

Add users to the group "barons" to enable administration and reading of codes.

chown the codes and log files to only be readable by baron/barons.

Tests
-----
To run the unit tests when making changes to make sure you didn't break any functionality run:

python test_baron.py

track retired codes

It would be good to have a mechanism to prevent accidentally recreating a code which was previously disabled.

time-limited codes

codes which turn on and off at a regular interval.

Use cases:

  • event-specific codes
  • some people have said they would be more comfortable with widely-shared codes if they stopped working at night
