docker-aseprite-linux's Introduction

Docker Aseprite container

This repository allows you to compile Aseprite without installing any build tools. All that is required is Docker.

After spending hours trying to get Aseprite to compile, I decided to just make a Docker image for it

Currently the script checks out Skia version m102 and Aseprite version 1.2.40. You can easily change this in compile.sh by changing the -b flag to the desired versions.

If any of the folders of the projects folder isn't empty, the script will skip checking out the latest versions. In order to re-download, delete the according folder.

  • ./dependencies/depot_tools
  • ./dependencies/skia
  • ./output/aseprite

Usage

  • Install docker
  • Clone this repository
  • cd into cloned repository
  • Run make build or make build-compose (The latter will use docker-compose to build the image)
  • Grab a cup of coffee, since this can take quite a while (Compiling build deps, skia, and aseprite)

You can now find the compiled version of Aseprite in the output/aseprite/build/bin folder

FAQ

If you get the following error when running Aseprite: ./aseprite: error while loading shared libraries: libdeflate.so.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory, make sure you have libdeflate installed on your system. Please run sudo apt install -y libdeflate0 libdeflate-dev

If you get the following error: ./aseprite: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory, you'll want to install the OpenSSL 1.1 package/library. You may have only OpenSSL 3.x installed, meanwhile Aseprite still uses the v1.1 library.

  • On Arch / Arch based distros, run sudo pacman -Syu openssl-1.1
  • On Ubuntu try: sudo apt install -y libssl1.1

Trying to run make build I get this error

docker build -t docker-aseprite .

How do i fix this? The docker daemon was started with sudo dockerd from another terminal window.

Hello, I have done all tasks by order but in the build/bin folder I got only these files

and this is my terminal final message

libcrypto.so.3

Hi!
I am getting the following error, when I try to run ./aseprite, after having compiled.

./aseprite: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.3: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

It seems to be related to the issue mentioned in the FAQ, but I cant seem to wrap my head around it.
Hope you can help!

no space left on device + non zero exit status 1

i followed all previous steps up to "sudo make build". the installation process begins correctly but then i get hundreds of errors starting with:

tar: bin/node: Wrote only 3584 of 10240 bytes
tar: share/systemtap/tapset/node.stp: Cannot write: No space left on device
tar: share/doc/node/gdbinit: Cannot write: No space left on device
tar: share/doc/node/lldb_commands.py: Cannot write: No space left on device

(you get the picture, "no space left on device" pops up about thousand times when i clearly have more than 200 gb available)

and then the final error states:

subprocess.CalledProcessError: Command '['/usr/local/bin/python3', '/dependencies/skia/bin/activate-emsdk']' returned non-zero exit status 1.
make: *** [Makefile:4: build] Error 1

i have no idea if i missed something in between steps, but i'm pretty sure i followed everything as stated in the read me. help would be appreciated cause i've been going insane trying to compile aseprite myself (and at this point i might buy it out of pure technical frustration lmao)

libcrypto.so.1.1: cannot open shared object file

Full output:

$ ./aseprite
./aseprite: error while loading shared libraries: libcrypto.so.1.1: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory

Running Arch Linux, this error happens because the default openssl package has been upgraded from v1.1 to v3.x in the repos

The way to fix it is to have the user install the openssl-1.1 package on the host system, i.e. sudo pacman -S openssl-1.1

It works after that. You could consider updating the README.md :)
