My attempt to align GPT2-medium using SFT, PPO and DPO

Intro

In this repo I've tried to align pretrained GPT2-medium in two settings:

• regular RLHF pipeline on Anthropic Helpful-Harmless dataset
• RLHF to train the model to respond in uppercase

I've used trl from HuggingFace, because it is extremely convenient and easy to use.

launch_train.py runs the training. An example of running the script:

./start.sh runs the gRPC server with the aligned GPT2 and the FastAPI wrapper for it. It also makes example requests to it using httpx, asyncio and requests.

Some weights of the model checkpoint at ./ppo_checkpoints were not used when initializing GPT2LMHeadModel: ['v_head.summary.weight', 'v_head.summary.bias']
- This IS expected if you are initializing GPT2LMHeadModel from the checkpoint of a model trained on another task or with another architecture (e.g. initializing a BertForSequenceClassification model from a BertForPreTraining model).
- This IS NOT expected if you are initializing GPT2LMHeadModel from the checkpoint of a model that you expect to be exactly identical (initializing a BertForSequenceClassification model from a BertForSequenceClassification model).
