Recording of house numbers for OpenStreetMap
(Filing here on Github, as it's unclear where the definitive KP3 bug-tracker is).
Non-ASCII characters (eg. ä.ö/ü/ß) entered as values in KP3 are converted to the Unicode replacement character U+FFFD prior to UTF-8 export to output .osm. To reproduce:
What happens:
What should happen:
Note that the U+FFFD ('') is being correctly UTF-8 encoded, and so is stored in the .osm file as 0xEF 0xBF 0xBD ("\xef\xbf\xbd"). At all times the name appears correctly inside the KP3 user interface. This issue appears to have been noticed by other people aswell:

Please let me know if I can provide any additional information to aid debugging.
Hi there. After reading reviews on Google Play and using KPM myself, it struck me how entering all the numbers should be able to be much faster. Currently to enter house numbers from 2500 to 2599 requires typing in "25" at the start of every. single. number (ie all 100 times ). I thought about how we could streamline this while still being easy to use on a phone interface, and came up with the mockup below based on two kinetically scrolling "dials" showing last selected house numbers (one dial for each side of the road). It is not designed to replace the current interface 100% of the time, but I suspect it could 95% of the time, while being much faster (often requiring 75% less clicks). For the other 5% of the time, it would be possible to toggle to the current interface with a single click.
Features / Functioning:

Why forces Kepad-Mapper-3 the user to switch on GPS on start if he only wants to export the collected data. This is really annoying.
There's a new feature on taginfo where you can see which projects are using which tags. Example: http://taginfo.openstreetmap.org/projects
The way to integrate your project is by creating a json file with the details of what tags keypad mapper is using and then add it to a txt file. Details about this can be found on the wiki page: http://wiki.openstreetmap.org/wiki/Taginfo/Projects
I think for keypad mapper, the only tags used are addr:housenumber and survey:date, so I might take a stab at this and submit a pull request
Hi,
First, thanks for this great app, I contributed >1000 house numbers to OSM using this one. :-)
One problem I saw with it is that the taken photos have GPS location stored, but not the compass direction. Storing that can be very useful if you want to contribute your photos later to e.g. Mapillary, so other OSM contributors can easily access your photos.
From an exif point of view, the two new tags would be Exif.GPSInfo.GPSImgDirectionRef and Exif.GPSInfo.GPSImgDirection. The opencamera project from sourceforge has this feature, but other than this particular detail, your app is much better for mapping house numbers. ;-)
Could you please consider adding this feature to the app?
Thanks,
Miklos

I would like to have the option of disabling survey:date
Hi,
I'm mapping in wifi-only mode. The manual says the app should upload opencellids as soon as I reconnect to the internet. However, that never happens: in the database EGT.db3, the observed cells are marked as upload=0, and days later on the website, a query for the observed cells returns no new data.
Logcat shows this error repeatedly:

Android 6.0.1 slimrom, latest keypadmapper from fdroid.
I started the application, it says "GPS is diabled, enable GPS to use this application".
When I press "quit", KeyPad mapper stays active in the system with an icon "Data recording is active".
When I go back to this, I am faced again with the same dialog box, to go settings and quit (that does not quit).
When I enable the GPS finally, I can get a rid of that dialog box and the program starts.
(And there is no way in the program either to quit. So now I reboot the phone. So this is a second bug.)
Using Android 2.3.3 on Xperia X10.
Thanks in advance!
