wksp-for-firefox's Introduction

Workspaces for Firefox

A Firefox Quantum extension designed to make interacting with tabs across multiple Firefox windows, spread across different virtual desktops/workspaces, easy.

Get it from addons.mozilla.org.

Usage

The Palette in action

Press Alt-Space (Ctrl-Space on Windows) to launch the Palette. In the Palette, you may search for a tab, regardless of where it is. Press Enter, or click the tab, to switch to it. Hold Shift while pressing Enter, or click the "paste" icon next to the tab, to "teleport" the tab into the current window. The tab will be transferred with no loss in history or other state. Finally, you can close tabs by clicking the close box at the right side of the tab in the list.

Building

To build this extension, simply run:

$ yarn
$ yarn build

inside the project directory. It will create the output file web-ext-artifacts/workspaces_for_firefox-${VERSION}.zip.

Suggestion: show URL of page on hover

Would be useful for when you have multiple tabs with the same page title, but different URLs. Obviously this may not be a common situation though.

Allow tabs to be dragged and dropped between windows

Currently, tabs can only be moved by the use of a move or "paste" button. This will move the tab to the current window.

Sometimes, however, if I'm reorganizing my tabs, I will want to move tabs between two windows which are not in focus - a common task, for example when doing web development or reading documentation.

Closed tab appears in Palette

The Palette sometimes displays tabs that have been closed in FF 59. Think it has something to do with manual closing.

Suggestion - focus the cursor on the "Filter" text box

When you click the button on the toolbar to open WorkSpace Palette, you have to click into the text box to begin searching. If you could open WP with the keyboard, then have keyboard input focused on the text box, it would make it a lot faster and no mouse required to find/switch to tabs!

Suggestion - keep pane open even after clicking close tab

(sorry if wrong area - new to github) When you click on the X to close a tab from the list, the list disappears. Would be nice to have the list stay open after the tab closes so you could close more tabs/switch to other tabs.

Extension fails to open if keyDown blocked via Event.preventDefault

When element focus is on a button of some sort, the default action is still applied to that input. In certain cases, the extension fails to open the menu window.

This was discovered with the 'autoplay' toggle on YouTube in Firefox Developer Edition (60.0b15-1) on Arch.
