draft-sonoda-dnsop-lb-rr's Issues

some minor suggestions on Section 3

  • As there are some de facto special domain names such as id.server and version.server, I think it would be better to use localtion.server as the owner name of the TXT RR.
  • If there is precedence order of location information, I think it would be better to describe it.
    • e.g. The list is in descending order of preference; the leftmost location has the highest preference.
  • It would be better to use reserved identifiers for documentation purpose.
    • AS65551 is a 32-bit reserved ASN for documentation.

some suggestions on region codes

I think the definition of region code in Section 2.1 needs some more clarifications.

  • There is no definition of the countries/territories that make up the region codes in this document.
    • I googled quickly and couldn't find standardized "region codes". If the author assumes the external data source of the definition of the regions, I think it is better to state in the document that The definition of the regions is out of scope of this document.
  • "AF" is ambiguous; it can be interpreted as both region code and country code (as "Afghanistan" in ISO 3166-1 alpha-2). "AS" is too as "American Samoa".
    • As the countries/territories may change from time to time, I think it is not possible to choose the name of a region which won't conflict with any country codes.
    • It may be better to add a prefix to the region code like as asn codeorprivate code.
  • "NA" is defined twice as region code. I guess the former is a misspelling of "AN".

some minor suggestions on Section 2.1

  • It seems to be unclear the meaning of two asns in asn code.
    • To specify a single LB RR which can be applied to the two (or more?) ASes?
      • example.jp. 3600 IN LB 1 AS2496:1 as65536.example.jp. ; for AS65536 is for AS2496 and AS1, not for AS65536?
    • "ascolon" notation?
    • a block of ASes (start:end)?
  • I think it is better to describe how to treat private code which is unknown to Clients.
    • For example: The Clients MAY ignore the LB RR with unknown <private code> in <location>.
  • <ans> ::= <nonzero digit> <digit>: I guess <ans>is a misspelling of <asn>.
  • continental code in the definition of location is undefined; I guess it is meant region code.
  • Some variable repetition signs seem to be missing.
    • <asn code> ::= "AS" <asn> *[ ":" <asn>]?
    • <private code> ::= "+" 1*<let>?
    • <asn> ::= <nonzero digit> *<digit>?
