It seems to be the (dependency) problem of the version 24.3. I'm on Ubuntu 22.04, and after updating to 24.3, MiKTeX broke. You could revert to 23.12 for now.

The quick fix, for now, is:
sudo apt update
sudo apt install qt6-wayland qt6-qpa-pluginsfrom miktex.

I see. As I couldn't resolve the issue and was in a hurry, I moved to TeX Live.
