Once chains have passed warmup, should be possible to compute Rhat & ESS measures, maybe even pass data to ShinyStan?
watch_stan()
in my tmux pane is printing in a bizarrely offset manner that makes it unusable:
Not sure if you've ever tested this (or if you're only focused on the rstudio audience). I took a look under the hood and nothing jumps out at me as being problematic, but this is not an area where I have a ton of expertise.
I've tried this without the loggr
library, with the mike-lawrence/loggr
and with the smbache/loggr
all with the same effect.
I'm happy to work on fixing this (and submitting a PR) if you believe you have an idea of what the issue is and what the fix might be. :)
Currently the time remaining it only updates when it has received a new sample in one of the chains. Better to both account for time elapsed since last update but also (for scenarios with increasing sample times, common for initial periods of big models) use the time since last update as an optimistic (i.e. increasing) estimate of time-per-sample.
This didn't happen previously, which was the point of watch_stan really, but sometime recently something changed (at least on Ubuntu).
vroom (https://github.com/r-lib/vroom) claims to be much faster, making the watcher more responsive and less likely to hog resources from the sampling processes.
This would probably completely break backwards compatibility, but would permit avoiding the huge feature delay between releases of cmdstan and rstan.
