avro-cli-examples's Introduction

Hi there ๐Ÿ‘‹

I am a solo entrepreneur based in Europe, unfortunately distracted by the temptations of coding for pleasure. I am an author and contributor to open source projects as well as a committer at the Apache Software Foundation. There's a good chance that aspects of your daily life are powered by the backend software I worked on in my past career.

avro-cli-examples's Issues

AVDL files

Great article. loved it and helped me a lot.

you have shown how to generate avsc files from the avro. Can the tool also generate an AVDL file by looking at the avro file? or perhaps convert the AVSC to an AVDL file?

Any idea how to get around the colon bug of avro cli

When running avro cli as such:
java -jar avro-tools-1.7.7.jar tojson /path/to/my:file.avro

I get the following error:

Exception in thread "main" java.lang.IllegalArgumentException: java.net.URISyntaxException: Relative path in absolute URI:

Is there a workaround to this bug other than renaming files ?

Avro on textfiles

Thanks for the great examples. I am struggling doing exactly the same using (zipped) csv files (using | as a delimiter), fromtext option and a schema file. Could you possibly add an example like this?

I would be willing to contribute if you could guide me to some blog, specification/documentation where I can read about this. Currently I only found Michael Noll's blog going into some detail.

Thanks a lot!
Best,
Christoph
