Hi, I'm Michael.

After designing public health tools at Iodine, and a quick dip into politics at Sidewire (RIP), I joined Newfront Insurance in December of 2017 to help design and build a modern insurance brokerage.

At Newfront, I designed and helped build tools that make life easier for brokers, their clients, and our account managers. Some of these tools include automation and others improve the communication process between each team.

In November of 2020, I left Newfront and after some time on personal projects like Hemolog, I joined Sensible to help get structured data out of phyiscal documents.

hemolog.com's Issues

Flash of base theme colors on page load

We use Geist-ui components across the app. I've seen some other folks complaining about this issue in the discussion there but need to look into exactly why this is happening.

This issue was closed a while back because the maintainer wasn't able to repro. I'll create a new issue and see what he has to say.

Setup firebase emulator locally

Right now, development hits the prod database. Obviously this isn't ideal. Setting up the local Firebase emulator would allow for completely local dev as well as securing prod, plus this should be simpler for others to work with since they won't need to create a Firebase app to run hemolog locally.

Add ability to update infusion

Improve color scheme

We use some hues of red and green across the app. It might be worth shifting those to help the site work better for people who are color bind.

I especially like the idea of using our Hemolog pink color along with a purple hue like described in this article.

Move from geist-ui to tailwind

Geist is cool and was really helpful in getting things started but is hard to customize and less flexible.

Add tests

Adding some simple E2E tests should be really easy and would go a long way in making sure Hemolog stays working.

Implement monthly chart displaying infusions over time

Add ability to sign up using email and password

Add API token to user profile for API access

If people want to access the API at some point like with the Raycast plugin I made, they'll need an API key instead of using the user token. This should also be able to be regenerated by the user.

Reminder feature for people who treat with monoclonal antibodies

Reminders for infusing are kinda dumb and not really needed. But injecting once or twice a month is absolutely useful! I could even hook this up to a calendar invite or something.

Add QR code feature

Allow someone to generate a QR code that links to their emergency Hemolog page.
Bonus: add a wallpaper creator that spits out the persons wallpaper with the QR code attached .

Graph doesn't calculate dates correctly

There seems to be a bug with how the graph calculates some dates. July 1st for instance doesn't show up in the July column for some reason.

Date should always be today in infusionModal

The buttons should all fit on mobile as well. This must have changed with a Geist UI update.

Implement dark mode

While I was starting to update the app to work nicely in dark mode I decided to redesign it a bit instead. This will be a bit harder to implement but once Geist UI has a fix for it's theming system... it might not be too bad.
