There should never be a gap between consecutive tracks. (Certain albums depend on this to play correctly).

A music player should be able to inform the user of how through the current track they are.

We wish to use a socket-server model to connect to mmm_output, since it would simplifies debugging (since it allows multiple connections to a single server and reestablishment of a broken/corrupted connection).

If the input is sufficiently ill-formed, or the system otherwise misbehaves, we still don't want to output bad data.

As indicated in the comments above PlaylistPlayer_update_playlist, if the client wishes to modify a future element (e.g., to change its start/end point) but their request is delayed until that element has already played, the playing will reset back to the track after the modified track, rather than simply continuing on from the latest matching element in the new playlist.

We need to redesign the protocol slightly so that it does the right thing in this (and similar) situations.
