Some time back, I wrote a simple utility that leverages Visual Studio file compare to compare two files. You select the files, then it runs Visual Studio, passing in appropriate parameters to let Visual Studio diff the files. I probably would not have written the utility if it would have already been available in Visual Studio itself.

My suggestion is to add the ability to compare two files (or possibly one file to the clipboard.) Such a compare would NOT involve files that are part of open project or solution, unless the user would specifically choose such a file from the file system for compare.
