Project suggestion for Projects board

Here is a suggestion to add this "Civilization Starter Kit Mechanical Design Project" to the Projects board

This is a global open source project where mechanical and design engineers can work together to help contribute to designing modular and cost effective easy to build machines. Which will help uplift our global community. See links below

This website has not been that active lately, but this has a lot to do with its global support, which varies depending on the current interest in this type of open source activity.

This project is also a good example for how future open source mechanical engineering projects could be run.

Compress the TOC into one collapsed line

Summary

I want to suggest to compress the table of contents into a one-liner.
I saw this on some github projects and I think this gives a big readme file some advantages:

  • A tidier look
  • If a string is searched the TOC can be excluded from search by collapsing it
  • If the readme is used as a webpage (html conversion, e. g. when using github pages) and the user wants to print the page the TOC can be excluded from the printing output by collapsing it

This is the current state

This is the suggestion

Add links to CAD/Engineering Challenges

There are many CAD/Engineering Challenges around the world:

P.S.: More coming soon ;-)

Broken Links: contributions Link + other content links

Also,
Hi Mukunda! My name is William Burke and I write a bunch of engineering educational content at Five Flute. We have an engineering guide that I think would be a great addition to your list. Are you up for including it? Let me know your thoughts!

OMG this repo is what I've been dreaming of *.*

Same story here, I always felt envious of how computer sciences had access to endless resources, courses, examples and anything that really helps to understand the topic and study further.

Finally something equivalent for Engineers, love it and just wanted to leave here my compliments for this repo as it is helping me a lot with my Mechatronic Engineering course :D

Add a license

Most awesome lists have a CC-BY-4.0 or CC-0 license. Do you mind to add one too?

See GitHub licensing docs:

You're under no obligation to choose a license. However, without a license, the default copyright laws apply, meaning that you retain all rights to your source code and no one may reproduce, distribute, or create derivative works from your work. If you're creating an open source project, we strongly encourage you to include an open source license. The Open Source Guide provides additional guidance on choosing the correct license for your project.

YouTube Playlists

Hello, guys, I have added all my saved playlists in YouTube in this doc. This needs to be segregated into appropriate sections. Please help and share your thoughts.

Some suggestions to streamline the list

While going through the list I noticed some points that could be improved:

  • Move the Contact Details and the Rules and Regulations into a separate CONTRIBUTIONS.md file
  • Convert the entries of the Table of Contents to real clickable links
  • Move the To-Do List to an issue
  • Add new header image to the top and also crop it to a more banner-like format
  • Provide an .editorconfig file for consistent style (see: http://editorconfig.org/)

Some other ideas for the list

As suggested in #25, I'm opening this issue for the topics I think this list is missing

  • ISBN added as a tag โ†’ ISBN-10: 0521838703
  • "good reads" section, for post/answers/discussions worth looking
  • CAD software
  • manufacturing
  • material science
  • subreddits
  • stack exchange forums
  • statistics
  • linking authors academic/about pages
  • copyright infringement

Update: iMechanica fixed most of the dead links around december (Lubliner is still a 404)

Make the list more readable

As mentioned in #10 the list gets kind of messy.

Compared to awesome-python this seems to be the case because of the overly used sub-categorising. This is especially the case if there are no entries in sub-categories like for example:

Heat Transfer
Books
Articles
Tutorials/MOOCs/Lectures

Also this leads to a massive use of ######.

It should be considered to:

  • Remove sub-categories which have no entries (They could be moved into an issue if you want to remember that you wanted to add something in those categories).
  • Change the approach from always using the Books, Websites, Articles and Tutorials/MOOCs/Lectures sections into something less bloated (like adding icons or tags to show what kind of material a link is)
  • Divide the whole document into multiple parts
