Can't remove Pix and Rhythmbox because of their own packages. Reverse dependents logic isn't good - we should use important packages logic instead, like in mintupgrade
extend lsb_release
I don't know if this is the right place to report bugs on mint.
Please extend lsb_release to include a reference on the Ubuntu-Version the release is built:
Currently, it just shows:
lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description: Linux Mint 17 Qiana
Release: 17
Codename: qiana
but I would like to see:
lsb_release -a
No LSB modules are available.
Distributor ID: LinuxMint
Description: Linux Mint 17 Qiana
Release: 17
Codename: qiana
Upstream Reference: Ubuntu 14.04
Upstream Name: Trusty Tahr
libgtk3-perl...
...in control file / deps - i'm i somehow missing the obvious here,
is it used anywhere and i didn't noticed such?
MintCommon can't parse Flatpak remote info.
MintInstall doesn't show icon preview anymore. When you run this program from the terminal, you can see:
mint-common (WARN): Could not load AppStream info for remote '<Flatpak.Remote object at 0x7f57209619c0 (FlatpakRemote at 0x555eeb891950)>': as-store-error-quark: Failed to parse XML: Error on line 1960 char 29: <p> already set '
Organic Maps is a free Android & iOS offline maps app for travelers,
tourists, hikers, and cyclists.
It uses crowd-sourced OpenStreetMap data and is developed with love by
' and tried to replace with ' (' (0)
MintCommon can't parse Flatpak remote info. This is a bug in the last stable LM release and the new unstable release.
move architecture independend files to /usr/share
All the Mint tools are python based and therefore architecture independend.
Architecture independend files should normally go to /usr/share. Though for scripts this is not necessary (it's at least not an error on a Debian system), images however should never go to /usr/lib according to the FHS:
http://lintian.debian.org/tags/image-file-in-usr-lib.html
I think a long-term goal should be to move all the stuff from /usr/lib to /usr/share.
Wireguard and Network Manager
NetworkManager 1.16 got native support for WireGuard VPN tunnels.
There is no menu item for adding a Wireguard tunnel in xfce.
How do i fix it?

On some screens the backlight is defaulted to off.
Please ensure that during bootup all backlights are set to at least say 10%. I just had an incredibly frustrating issue trying to diagnose why the video card would not work only to realize later that the backlight was off by default in fresh installs.
Additional software dialog is displayed as untranslated
The "Additional software has to be installed" dialog that is using aptdaemon (at least I think it does) seems to be untranslated on Linux Mint although it is fully translated in my (Czech) language and MintInstall is fully translated as well. See the following screenshot:
This happens on a fully updated Linux Mint MATE 20.1 with the following versions of mintinstall/aptdaemon packages installed:
ii mintinstall 8.0.5 all Software Manager
ii aptdaemon 1.1.1+bzr982-0ubuntu32.3 all transaction based package management service

texstudio and texmaker fail with libQt5XcbQpa.so.5: undefined symbol: FT_Get_Font_Format
On a Linux Mint Mate Tricia I get the following issue:
- I installed a texstudio
dpkg -l "texstudio"
ii texstudio 2.12.22-0202001151910ubuntu18.04.1 - texmaker
ii texmaker 5.0.2-1build2
on both I get a
texmaker: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5XcbQpa.so.5: undefined symbol: FT_Get_Font_Format
texstudio: symbol lookup error: /usr/lib/x86_64-linux-gnu/libQt5XcbQpa.so.5: undefined symbol: FT_Get_Font_Format
google tells me, that it is a freetype problem. So I checked freetype:
dpkg -l "freetype"
un gir1.2-freetype2-2.0
un libfont-freetype-perl
ii libfreetype6:amd64 2.8.1-2ubuntu2 amd64
ii libfreetype6-dev:amd64 2.8.1-2ubuntu2
libQt5XcbQpa.so.5 is part of the package libqt5gui5:
dpkg -l "libqt5gui5"
ii libqt5gui5:amd64 5.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu2.5
Now the funny part: I have an identical machine here (lshw Produkt: 81HN (LENOVO_MT_81HN_BU_idea_FM_V130-15IKB)), same system but different update status:
the one with the error did the last update:
Start-Date: 2020-03-10 11:28:54
Commandline: aptdaemon role='role-install-packages' sender=':1.328'
Install: libpoppler-qt5-1:amd64 (0.62.0-2ubuntu2.10, automatic), libqt5xml5:amd64 (5.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu2.5, automatic), texstudio:amd64 (2.12.22-0202001151910ubuntu18.04.1), libqt5printsupport5:amd64 (5.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu2.5, automatic), libqt5concurrent5:amd64 (5.9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu2.5, automatic), libqt5script5:amd64 (5.
9.5+dfsg-0ubuntu1, automatic)
End-Date: 2020-03-10 11:28:59
and the one, on which the same texmaker and texstudio version work updates last time:
Start-Date: 2020-03-05 17:25:42
Commandline: /usr/sbin/synaptic --hide-main-window --non-interactive --parent-window-id 90177556 -o Synaptic::closeZvt=true --set-selections-file /tmp/tmp47ajxcq5
Requested-By: prakti2 (1000)
Install: ...
End-Date: 2020-03-05 17:32:16
The texmake, texstudio, libqt5gui5, freetype packages are identical.
It seems, in between there must be a change in some changes in a different package. Attached you can find the packagelist of the both pcs: packagelist1 is where it does not work, packagelist2 is, where it works.

[Discussion] Consider adding a set of default template files
For example a libreoffice odt, powerpoint, spreadsheet so we don't have an empty "Create New Document" list
Another option would be to remove the template list if there are no templates present
