hex-zero's Introduction

⬢ Hex-Zero ⬢

At its core, HX0 is a re-design of the Tri-Zero Z motion, with a revised Pandora Gantry. Without the aforementioned, none of this project would've been possible, so a great amount of thanks is due to zruncho3d and MasturMynd whom ultimately sent me down this rabbit hole!

What Differentiates Hex-Zero From Tri-Zero + Pandora Gantry?

These are several of the major differentiating features of HX0:

  1. Optional use of M3 pins in all possible bearing stacks (and the option to not use pins at all)
  2. Use of KGLM-03 spherical bearings in the flying bed Z joints
  3. Reduced Z height of the Z motor mounts and skirts
  4. New front Z tensioners/idlers to allow clearance with MiniSB (with additional travel of pandora gantry)
  5. All printed parts optimized to be easier to print
  6. More hexagons!

So You Want To Build A Hex-Zero?

The bill of materials to convert a V0.2 to a HX0 can be found here (make sure to read the comments for help on what you'll need). Then with everything ordered, you can get cracking printing the STLs. For now, you will need to use the CAD for a large portion of your build as a reference when building your HX0, but a complete instruction manual is being created to be released later (Insert Soon Trademark Meme)!

You Read The Manual?

By far the most time-consuming part of this project is creating a build manual. So it is far from done, but the latest version of what is currently completed can be found here. If you notice anything wrong with it, please don't hesitate to point issues out to me so I can quickly resolve them, all I ask is you bear in mind that the manual is in a very early stage and still requires a lot of work to be completed :)

Toolheads & Probes

Any probe and tool head combination that works with Tri-Zero should work on Hex-Zero, and with the extra XY movement freedom from the Pandora-style gantry, it allows more flexibility in placing probe docks.

Community Beta Testing Builds

I want to extend a massive thanks to everyone who took a leap of faith in building and testing this project in its early stages, below is a collage of some HX0s built during the beta testing of this project :)

With all things, nothing is truly perfect, so if you come across any issues, no matter how small, or find something you think can be improved, please don't hesitate to reach out with suggestions/feedback on discord in the development thread for this project!
