thing pinging/telnet/ssh thing isn't good enough. a good place to test is the Apple Store, they seem to have a funky guest network that triggers this bug

I don't have access to any Macs with Xcode 10.1... any way this can be updated? Is it quite an involved process?

After the update to MacOS 14.0 it stopped working and just showed "no ssid".
I understand, you probably don't support this project anymore or even forgot about it:) But I've been using this indicator for 5 years, I'm traveling a lot, changing lots of wifi, and ping to google on my toolbar is an essential indicator of the quality of the network. Is it possible to fix it ?:)

First: Epic idea, usually I have an iTerm terminal open which runs a ping to 8.8.8.8

I'm using it since a couple of days, and ran into some issues, where it shows "ping gw" all the time. The issue is that some of my routers do not allow to be pinged, but pings to 8.8.8.8 work perfectly.

Maybe remove the test to ping the gateway completely? Or is there a specific idea behind?

Add a (possibly optional) trend graph showing the ping performance/ x time.
