bootstrap-navbar-code-along's Issues

Lesson Broken

Same error as last lesson - please do let me know when it is fixed.

Have had to redo assignment 3 times

I have had to re-do this assignment three times. I have used git clone 3 times, because Learn IDE does not appear to be able to save cloned repositories. I have followed the video three times, and after pushing my changes to the github, when I log off and log on, I have found the assignment to have never been pushed to my repository.

I have also worked with 3 technical coaches due to debugging issues with the video associated with this lab, and the previous lab. Unfortunately, despite this, the assignment was not pushed to the github repository. I would like to request that I receive credit for this lab. I have exercised flexibility in redoing the lab three times, worked with multiple coaches due to the dated videos, and I have resubmitted the lab to no avail. It seems incongruent that the videos provide enough technical issues to obscure the content of the lessons. I will not be attempting to complete this lab a 4th time.

Code-along Files

Hi!

The lab starts immediately assuming that we're on the same page with having all the files ready to code along with. Like the previous lesson/lab, nothing is present in the forked lab so we have to manually re-add all the files used in the Exceptional Realty project to the directory. Even then, I have to find and go into the forked lab that has all the files (I believe the "adding-responsive-features" lab) because only the latest forked labs have all the images/videos/etc. The lessons are broken up instead of us building and continuing from the same directory as the lecturer in the video.

I don't know if this is intended for us to practice copying files through terminal or any of that sort, but I just wanted to give feedback if you want to make the lab easier to begin and follow from the start. Thank you!

KNOWN ISSUES

New version of this curriculum to be released late 2018/early 2019.

issues with the last two codealongs lessons in HTML CSS session

I think these lessons are poorly setup, especially with how Jon approaches it. There is a mismatch between what the 2017 user is experiencing through learn-ide and what he is doing. I just had a lot of trouble submitting because I was working in a folder that wasn't the folder that learn-ide expected and it wouldn't let me submit and it was a big rigamarole. Flatiron can do better here.

Forking problems

the repositories for all of the bootstrap lessons don't have the bootstrap or the index documents (which is fine, but then there shouldn't be green lights for forking and submitting a pull request, because I've had a lot of errors just creating my own folders and then submitting them as lessons, so end up having to copy paste the exact same folders into each empty forked repository, which wastes a lot of space on my computer)

Outdated bootstrap information

When you follow along with bootstrap v4, outdated bootstrap information, so had a difficult time following along with creating the social links.

Lesson missing files...

Hello,

I opened this similar issue with the previous lesson as well...

Hello,

This code-along is still missing the necessary files to work on. Since Learn.co is configured to basically only work on the current lesson we are on and we aren't manually using a Git repository that we are continuing to update, this is a big problem. And it seems to have been around for a long time.

Everything has been great up until this point but this is troubling. It makes me wonder if there are other lessons that have the same problem later on? I'm in the Community-powered version of Full-Stack Web Development, which is supposed to be the same as the Online version. Does this problem exist with the Online Web Developer program as well?

I will continue with the Community-powered course for now but this kind of issue would stop me from considering changing to the Online-version at some point.

Thanks,
Greg

Video is hard to follow with release of Bootstrap v4

Hi!

The instructions are designed to follow along with bootstrap v3 (I guess) but with the release of bootstrap v4 last week, they're a little out of sync. Some of the elements don't work with the older styling (navbar) and it's hard to figure out how to orient the social links to the right side of the bar.

Might be worth clarifying in the text! Hope that's helpful.

Outdated Format

The Bootstrap website, in addition to a fair amount of the formatting they use for the Nav bar has changed. I found it a little difficult to follow the video properly. This lesson could really use an update.
