activerecord-validations-lab's Introduction

ActiveRecord Validations Lab

Basic Validations

Add validations to these models such that...

  1. All authors have a name
  2. No two authors have the same name
  3. Author phone numbers are exactly ten digits
  4. All posts have a title
  5. Post content is at least 250 characters long
  6. Post summary is a maximum of 250 characters
  7. Post category is either Fiction or Non-Fiction This step requires an inclusion validator, which was not outlined in the lesson. You'll need to refer to the Rails guide to look up how to use it.

Custom Validations

Finally, add a custom validator to Post that ensures the title is sufficiently clickbait-y. If the title does not contain "Won't Believe", "Secret", "Top [number]", or "Guess", the validator should add a validation.

Use the Custom methods style of validator found in the Rails documentation.

activerecord-validations-lab's Issues

inclusion validator not required in custom validator

The solution doesn't use inclusion, though step 7 does. Seems like the paragraph beginning "This step requires an inclusion validator ..." refers to step 7. Not a major problem--I got the tests to pass first, so I could see the solution and see what was used instead of #match--but needlessly confusing.

custom validation section needs more info

definitely was at a lost on where to begin for the custom validation. It would've been helpful to mention using regex, or errors.add, any thing like that to guide in the right thinking to problem solve. Additionally, how we would we test if the validations were working? we would have to create the view templates?

Solution branch?

Hi! Possible to add a solution branch? I'm especially curious to see the solution for the custom clickbait-y validation. Thanks!
