reading-time-estimator's Issues

Confusion regarding minute calculation

Hi, I'm confused about the line 73 in lib/reading-time-estimator.ts

const minutes = Number(Math.round(words / wordsPerMinute).toFixed(2))

As we know, Math.round() returns an integer, what does toFixed(2) do here? Can we just calculate minutes like this

const minutes = Math.round(words / wordsPerMinute)

Module not found: Can't resolve 'reading-time-estimator'

After upgrading from 1.5.3 to 1.6.0 (and later versions), I can't import the lib in my project:

Module not found: Can't resolve 'reading-time-estimator'

Using it with node 18.8.0 and importing using:

import { readingTime } from **"reading-time-estimator";

Just downgrading back to 1.5.3 fixes the problem, any ideas?

There's an error thrown now when passing the unrecognized locale to the readingTime(). To make it go away, either:

  1. Ignore the unrecognized locale, treating it as there was undefined passed instead.
  2. Export the supported locales so there can be a check made before using the function.

1.3.0 has invalid NPM package

I performed a fresh NPM install of reading-time-estimator @1.3.0 and typescript immediately displayed an error:

Cannot find module 'reading-time-estimator' or its corresponding type declarations.ts(2307)

I checked the package contents and noticed it is missing the dist directory so these resolutions fail:

  "module": "./dist/esm/index.es6.js",

Something wrong about calculating the word counts

It's me again : )

When I use reading-time-estimator in my blog, I found that the word counts of my article is strange.

So I tested these functions and found that there are some problems about calculating the word counts:

const parseWords = (data) =>
  data.match(/[\w|\d|\s|,|.|\u00C0-\u024F|\u4E00-\u9FA5|\u3041-\u309F]+/giu) ??
  []

const getNumberOfWords = (data) =>
  parseWords(data).reduce(
    (accumulator, word) =>
      accumulator +
      (!word.trim().length ? 0 : word.trim().split(/\s+/u).length),
    0,
  )

const testWords = '中文 多来几个字';

const parsedArr = parseWords(testWords);

const wordCount = getNumberOfWords(testWords);

console.log(parsedArr, wordCount);
// [ '中文 多来几个字' ] 2

Unlike English, we generally consider "中文 多来几个字" to have 7 characters. "中文" consists of 2 characters, and "多来几个字" consists of 7. We usually do not use spaces as the standard separator characters. I believe this point also applies to Japanese, so the calculation here has some problems😢
