dk needs a --help

$ dk --help
dk ERROR: Expected to find devkit installed at ./devkit-packages, but it was missing. Did you install devkit?

Maybe at least something that spits out the fact you can do update-devkit? But I don't know how that will hook in to the commands you can run, etc.

dk does not seem to ignore the local dir

This block is in dk

    export PYTHONPATH="${current_dir}/devkit:${dev_dir}:${PYTHONPATH}"

It says it is supposed to ignore the local directory and use the dev dir. However, it still puts the current_dir/devkit in the python path. Thus, if the current project does have a devkit directory in it, that will be used, since it is listed before the ${dev_dir} entry.
