Need to set up transition for opacity

In testimonials.js I need to make it so that when the quote changes to a new quote, it fades in and then fades out before the next quote comes in. Right now it just changes without any effect at all.

I know I need to do a CSS transition on opacity and then have JS change the opacity when it sends through the quote but I can't get it to work.

I have the basic code in here and was hoping you could help me figure this one out. I can get text on HTML to fade out or fade in but can't get it to do it after the new quote gets displayed.
