The renderers for text mode and especially tile mode seem slower than bitmap mode, at least to me. In fact, tile mode seems so slow that frankly I dread adding the second map layer. This could just be me.

There's a bigger issue though: I blatantly based the tile mode renderer on VBA's. Perhaps it should be rewritten?
