when basing a custom element of a base class that extends litElement:

class KaskadiElement extends LitElement {
  constructor () {
    super()
    this.lang = 'en'
  }
}

class TestElement extends KaskadiElement {
  render(){
    return html`hi`
  }
}

using document.createElement("test-element")
throws in karma test, even when wrapping it in try... catch

try {
  document.createElement('test-element')
} catch (err) {
  console.log('hi')
}

using innerHTML instead works fine:

document.body.innerHTML = '<test-element></test-element>'
const elem = document.querySelector('test-element')

both ways work without error in the browser!?!?!

we should separate the workflow for chrome and FF testing into single actions like it's done in template-kaskadi-element

basing elements off of this with no property lang defined in static get properties will break karma testing
