Currently the solution to this is to be greedy, using killall whenever we need to kill a linkd process (i.e. it fails the heartbeat test). We should look into solutions that either:

a) keep the PIDFILES updated with the correct PID (unlikely, a lot has been tried to get this working)

b) explore the /proc directory to see if we can utilize that for our purposes

c) expand killall usage so that it is also used in linkdupdate.ipup for triggering updates on IP changes

d) rewrite linkd and linkdupdate scripts so that there will be two scripts, each controlling a single wan without the use of arguments, then which process to signal will be able to be more precisely identified

e) create some pipe command using ps, grep, awk, etc. to identify PID to signal without the use of PID Files

In any case, if the PID file implementation is deprecated, we need to prevent them from being created.
