Don't use semicolons in Javascript?

Great guide!

While reading I came across the section that said not to use semicolons in js and I was wondering why that made as a rule.

I'm just a js beginner but I've read in guides and tutorials to always use semicolons. A quick google search lead me to a stack overflow thread in which people recommended using them as well.

Would you mind explaining why you recommened this practice?
